If you are just starting out, then buy some good knockoffs for cheap, spend the rest of the money at the range and on the course honing your skills.
I played for the first time about 6-8 yrs ago and started with the knockoffs. I learned to hit the ball, then learned to hit the ball straight, then learned my distance control. In the meantime I beat these clubs to hell and back. They really took some abuse.
Now that I am a little more comfortable with my game I got a nice set that I take care of and can enjoy without any buyers remorse.
Try the Turbo power brand. you can google it and also check ebay. nice clubs at a great price!!

I had a set of custom fitted clubs from a local golf shop that were his own knock offs of Wilson Staffs. I love them. They only cost $250 for the set, I've played them for eight years, I'm an 11 handicap.
Buy from a reputable source... often times you are just buying technology that is a few years old, and for most of us that's fine.
Invest the difference in lessons. If people would spend half the money they waste on the newest clubs on lessons instead, they would be much better golfers.

clones and knock-offs are a blight on the industry.
please do not support those that sell them.
quality is usually suspect at best and warranty for breakage is mostly non-existant.
find yourself an original component manufacturer (eg.SMT golf) as well as a reputable clubfitter to fit you properly.
Check the Professional Clubfitter's Society (PCS) site for one near you.
You can thank me later

dont even talk to jake up there. ive used knockoff clubs before and you know what? theyre GREAT. sure theyre not real--but you can play just as well. basically, theyre clubs you can get for a lower price.
my 12 yrs old buddy plays with knockoff clubs and guess what? he shoots a 64 on an 18 hole! no lie. you can email/IM me if you want.
i play with them myself and although i dont shoot that well (because i dont practice that much and it really depends on your level) i shoot in the mid 90s.

Yes there just as good.I bought a driver and 3 wood from pinemeadows. They have been in business since 1985.That says something about them.I'm going to buy my irons from them.Buy what you like and have fun playing the game. It's not about what you paid for your clubs it's about having fun.

it really depends on the golfer. if ur a beginner theyll work just as well until u start making solid contact - then u should get the real clubs for work ability and a good feel for the ball.

No, don't even waste your money. They are not very good at all. They have inferior technology, construction, and quality control. Just save your money and buy the real deal. If you don't you will be really sorry.
