I have a 1998 Jeep Wrangler with Goodyear Wrangler tires(size 30x9.5 R15LT). As it turns out I got a flat that is unrepairable, and these tires are discontinued. The other 3 tires are in decent shape and I have been told that I cannot put a different tire on even if it is the same size. From what I gather it's because of the 4 wheel drive. If this tire will be on the front of the jeep and I don't put it into 4 wheel drive will I have a problem? Also if I end up getting one new tire it will be a different size anyway because the others have been used for awhile. I've gotten several different answers on this issue any experience would help. Thanks

I have seen people put different tire of the same size on an axle. I have never met a mechanic who recommends doing it. Just buy two new tires for the front axle it isn't that much more money.

only get 4 snows, and in the journey that your state facilitates it get studded. Your front drives would be digging in genuine and stable and taking you as much as an risky velocity for secure breaking and curves on your rear summers. no longer stable. think of roughly your fronts gripping a curve genuine tight on an identical time as your rear end slips off sideways into oncoming site visitors, you may steer a front skid yet no longer a rear skid. additionally you get your self out of sync. 4 snow tires and four summers final the comparable time as 8 summers. So the snows do no longer value you something. in case you have the snows fastened on their very own wheels. then tire guy will do the two times a 300 and sixty 5 days replace for loose. If no longer, it extremely is a minimum of $15 a tire. additionally 4 snows on their very own wheels potential you get to throw away the toy spare. One iciness off tire is the spare in summer time. One summer time off tire is the spare in iciness. right here is the mathematics. 4 new wheels for 4 snows = 4 X $60 = $240. 2 seasons adjustments according to 3 hundred and sixty 5 days on 4 snows without their very own wheels = 2 X 4 X $15 = $one hundred twenty. So in 2 years those 4 new wheels for the snows are paid for. then you definately've 4 snows that did no longer value something greater desirable on 4 new wheels that are paid for and all your seasonal adjustments are loose.

Yes, a lot of people do it, some don't have problems, others do. Mixing tread is bad for handling. Mixing sizes is bad for the differential. Your call ultimately, but as someone else said, get a matching set for each axle. As long as they are the same sixe, you won't have too much trouble.

if they are the same size there is no harm in 2 different tire types ther is not going to be a noticeable difference in height or anything else no dangers no wobbles and you can still use the four wheel drive if needed its not going to affect it in the lease
