My now previous employer was given notice of my final day (8/3/07) in the first week of May 2007, but did not cancel my ins. policy until after 8/03/07 so now i am told i have to pay since cut off was before 1st of the month. My concern is I was never asked if I wanted to continue it for the month of August or have it canceled after the last full cycle (July '07) I just feel I shouldn't have the deduction out of final check due to employer not cancelling it prior (they had more than enough time. I only stayed on longer than 2 wks as a "help" to company

It is normal business practice to continue the insurance through your last day and to the end of the month in which that day occurs. It is up to you to let them know that you didn't want the insurance for August. 95% of the people do want the coverage to continue. You can talk with the HR department to see if they will cancel it for August.

Its fairly common for insurance to continue through the end of the last month of your employment. (Ultimately it depends upon the contract your employer has with the insurer. In this case, it does sound like they are an "end of the month" group.)

Normally this isn't something that you have a choice over - whatever your company's contract w/the insurance company is determines what your last day of coverage is.

Unless you advise HR that you want cancellation prior to your last day, it is assumed (correctly) that you desire insurance through your final day of work.

THEY don't have to ask YOU. It's the other way around.
