It is obvious that catholics have not "surety" of their salvation. Why? Because they don't read the bible, or they don't trust what they read!

Many of you did answer correctly. To wit: "The free gift of God is eternal life". You see salvation is a "gift" given by having faith in the Son of God, Jesus Christ. You cannot work for a gift. It is freely given. I can prove this from the Catholic bible, so you cannot say that the the protestant bible is flawed.

Look, I don't hate catholics..but I do hate the catholic church. Straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!

Salvation is simple, pure and beautiful.

As for the Peter being the Pope. I think not. There is not scriptural reference to him being any type of pope. He may have been the bishop of rome..but he was not pope. Linking him to the papacy is the catholic churches way of subjugating all of you blind faithful of the catholic church.

Seek the truth in the Word of God, not that vatican.

Bob--that was the saddest post I've ever seen. You appear to have no "joy of salvation", no sense that the Holy Spirit is in you, no sense of what scripture is saying to you.

You need to flee the catholic church and seek out the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Dude as a Evangelical about to go back to the Catholic church let me try to help.

Read your bible, its very clear. If you believe Jesus Christ died for your sins and are baptised and follow him you will go to heaven.

You are trying to start some sort of argument based on your understanding of the bible. Its clear that you must think you have some sort of understanding but you do not.

The bible was put together by Catholics, there were only Catholics or Orthodox Catholics until the reformation.

Martin Luther took the Catholic Bible and removed some verses in Esther and Daniel. He also took out the book of Maccabees because he didnt like it.

He also tried to take out revelation but some other people convinced him not to. Oh yeah and he also wanted to kill all the Jews.

So before you attempt to get into some bible thumping, take a knee and realise

1) You have a dumbed down version of a Catholic Bible.
2) Catholics gave you the bible
3) Catholics have early church writings about what the bible really meant (not your own interpretation)
4) Jesus said you would know his church because they are one.
5) There are 40,000 protestant denominations all because people want a feel good gospel based on the traditions of men instead of God.

Your so deluded to think that in 2000 years more people far more elect and wise than you havent beat this to death.

Everyone's afraid to answer your question. And the one talking about Jesus, that's a smokescreen. They aren't explaining the "pope" and that they believe they have to work their way into heaven. The catholic "scribes" say that whoever says by faith alone is to be killed. They won't answer about that. And then of course the typical answers about "nobody knows who gets in" (even though the Bible says every individual can KNOW if they're saved), and then the ones "working their way in" (a sure road to hell).

And notice what complicated answers everyone gives. Yet the Bible says the Gospel that saves is simple (1 Corinthians 15:2-4). It's believing that Jesus, who is God, died for my sins and rose again. That's it. No "state of grace", no blah blah blah that is the false gospel that catholicism teaches, which leads to eternal hell.

That's how you can tell these catholics are in a cult.

True catholics know they believe enough to grant their presence there. They do not answer for others.
Many might suppose going to heaven is about evolving, deserving and patient people, so humor and strenght are shown without a display. Being truly happy and in love could mean to be in heaven although you might not be dead yet.
Knowing and recognising the truth in self and others is a favourite on the subject. Perhaps the point is that some want it and others do not, and as other state there are many houses in my father´s home.
Peace be with you. Agnus Dei.

Between you and CJ, you seem to have it covered. The Catholic answer to your question, though, has been summed up by several above. In essence, we don't presume upon God's grace by deciding for ourselves who is or is not heaven-bound. As a former evangelical, I also know what you think.

Frankly, I don't see this as a "big chance" for much of anything. But thank you for the two points.

I can't judge who goes to heaven, only God can. Judge not lest ye be judged.

People don't understand the Papacy, because they don't understand the Old Testament. Let my try to explain...In the Old Testament, The Davidic Kings would set up Prime Ministers (stewards) to execute their power for them. Such as in Isaiah 22:15, in which the "shedna" is the office of prime minister, who has been given full authority to arrest or pardon crimes. The King would also allow the Prime Minister to rule the Kingdom for them in their absence, sickness, and such. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ, The King, gives St. Peter the office of Prime Minister, in order for him to rule the Kingdom of God on earth (The Church), until Jesus returns. We can see this in Matthew 16:18. Jesus gives the keys of the Kingdom to Peter, in order for Peter (The Pope) to have full authority on behalf of the King, Jesus Christ.

I don't really like answering questions for people who clearly have some agenda, but..

I am not God. I have no idea who gets to heaven or why. The only thing I can do is live my life the best way I can.

No one knows who exactly goes to heaven and who does not. Those who keep God's commandments and remove mortal sin from their souls will go to heaven. We cannot make any judgments in that area because only God trully can see the heart of each person. God, however, offers that possiblity to all people.

If you are going to fish for Catholics, you have got to use better bait than that!

Tell me please: WHY should anyone bother to answer your question when you are so clearly intent on telling everyone why they are wrong and you are, allegedly, right?

Pride goes before the fall, does it not?

I will say no more because I am not interested in what you think. My interest is in what GOD thinks.
