Of course not, and a mermaid told me so!
Seriously, there has to be something to spark the imagination, so I have to feel that they were real.
whether they ARE is the important part of it all

Unicorns, no; but for dragons, no one can be sure; if you look around the world, many people in different cultures all seem to have invented some sort of dragon; there was even a culture that wrote with symbols shaped liked dragons; apparently, ages ago, there was a belief that dragons created the universe, which would explain why the dragon has become "popular" around the world; they could be real, they might not be.

Earthly, non-Firebreathing Dragons are real. In the islands of Sulawesi and Maluku in Indonesia, you can find the dragon called Komodo Dragon. Unicorns are unreal. However, the only unicorn inspiration I know are from the Narwhal of the Artic.

Dragons are mentioned in the bible and so is behemoth and leviathan. The bible does describe leviathan with the qualities of being able produce a flame from its mouth. The term Dinosaur is a recent word. Before the word dinosaur was invented the term dragon could have been used instead. The bible has the following to say about dragons, behemoth and leviathan:
Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. ~ Job 40:15-18
Behemoth is not directly referred to as a dragon but resembles what we might now call a land dinosaur.
Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down? Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth. In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him. ~ Job 41:1,19-22 (Read Job 41:1 - 41:34 for a full description.)
In that day the Lord with his hard and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea. ~ Isaiah 27:1
You divided the sea by your might; you broke the heads of the sea monsters on the waters. You crushed the heads of Leviathan; you gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness. ~ Psalm 74:13-14
Leviathan is called a serpent but resembles what we might now call a sea dinosaur with the ability to have a flame come out of his mouth.
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, ~ Revelation 20:2
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. ~ Psalms 91:13
Dragon is the name of some creature possibly what we now call dinosaur. Dragon is also used to refer to the Devil/Satan.
Unicorns are mentioned multiple times in the bible.
His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh. ~ Deuteronomy 33:17
Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns. ~ Psalms 22:21
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee? ~ Job 39:10
God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. ~ Numbers 23:22
Unicorns are describe as having horns and having a band in the furrow.

just because science can't prove their natural existence doesn't mean they exist. however, because there is no way to explore the entire world (natural and otherwise) at all times, past, present, and future, it is impossible to say they are not real.
by the way, what do you mean by "real" and how important is VERY important?
thanks for the two points.

i think that maybe they were real at one time and since they were magical beings the probably had way to conceal themselves from the rest of the world but still live in it . how could someone come up with such a thing if it was not real at one time

Yes, of course they are. Just because they haven't been discovered anywhere on earth, doesn't mean they don't exist. Don't listen to anyone who tells you differently. They are very real, just like dolphins and fairies.
