Authorities there report a few cases each year. You are advised to seek medical attention if you suspect a recluse bite. Recluses tend to be more prominent in the spring and fall.
Recluse spiders will bite humans when they are trapped between flesh and surface area. To reduce a bite risk, keep beds away from walls, remove bed skirts as well as any item under the bed so that the only pathway to the bed is up the legs.
In the United States there are eleven indigenous (native) species of recluse spider, and two species introduced from other countries. The brown recluse is found in the Midwest and parts of the south; it ranges from southern Wisconsin east to Ohio, and south to extreme northern Florida and central Texas.

They don't travel in groups, I don't know why they would be doing that, maybe it was a mother with babies that had just hatched?
