Wicca is NOT a very old religion at all, per se. It was begun in the late 1940's by Gerald Gardner, a Birtish Civil Servant who claimed to have some knowledge that was passed down to a "coven" of witches that he said that he belonged to. NO proof of any of this has ever been forthcoming. There is no coherent creation story of Wicca. Wiccans would look at such a story as being false and reeking of DOGMA, which is somthing that NO Wiccan is willing to accept into the Faith.

We follow a general belief in ALL the various Gods and Goddesses of Paganism, and base our practices of worship loosely on them but have NO adherence to any of those ACTUAL Religious practices as, most of these were eradicated by the early Christian Church and the Early Islamic Faith. As Prariecrow mentioned, MOST wiccans are not concerned with the ORIGIN of the univers but rather living our lives in the present, trying to be kind and loving to not only our fellow humans but to the Universe as a whole. We recognize that it and everything and everyone within the universe has it's OWN right to exist, simply for it's OWN sake. Anyone that tells you such a creation story is making it up off the top of his/her head and just trying to buffalo you.

Wiccan Creation Story

2016-11-12 01:19:11 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

There is no creation story. Wicca developed in the modern world where there already are creation stories: big bang theory, evolution, etc. No religion sits down and actively invents a creation story (or any other aspect of itself). It's part of the cultural understanding. Also, since Wicca has no prophets, if someone just said "The Goddess has informed me that the world was formed from the union of stale cheese and old socks" we'd say, "Uh, right...just as soon as you bring us some evidence."

Which isn't to say that at least some of us don't see deities involved in these processes, but one of the big points is that the gods and nature are integrated, so scientific explanations are in no way contrary to faith.

Wicca has only been around for about sixty years; any Wiccan with an education (and that's most of us) knows this, although it's the "we're ANCIENT!" ones who squeal the loudest. Consequently, it has had the benefit of the advances of science, particularly in the areas of evolution and planetary science.

We have no set creation myth because we do not need one. What is much more important to us is what we are doing NOW in the world as it stands, and what kind of future we can create for ourselves.

Wiccan is not an original religion that came up with everything from scratch. It's an amalgamation of various Pre-Monotheistic pagan practices and beliefs. Pagans take their beliefs from the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Native Americans, and other ancient pagan societies. Wicca is not so much a religion as a professed composite of paganism, so there would be no agreed on central tenets of wisdom there. Sorry, but if anyone said otherwise, they'd be bullshitting you.

I hope the Pagans typing here come to realize that calling themselves Wiccan doesn't make them into some new religion, and they're pretty much reverting to old outdated pagan beliefs that were debunked thousands of years ago. I hope they open their eyes to that fact and get over their vanity and conceit by claiming to adhere to a real religion. It's just as real as believing in a mixture of Buddhism, Christianity and ancient Egyptian myth. It's called being picky and non-committal towards a concrete belief system. They only pick various things from numerous myths that they like, and say that's the truth.
As if. I'll just say that I like the idea of Mary mother of Jesus, but I'll choose to believe she gave birth also to Isis and Osiris by having sex with the primal Sky God Uranus. Why not?

And to Megan-- You must be a historical revisionist to say Wicca existed Pre-Christianity. Please. It became popular in the 20th century, and Wiccans are typically ones to lie about it by claiming ancient roots. Sure, the beliefs from different mythological religions were ancient, but Wicca is just a new invention seeking to mesh all those beliefs together, not in a unification, but rather in a patchwork quilt of crazy myths. Don't try to deny it; Wiccans have an aversion to historical fact.

Once I was told, by a very wise old crone, when I asked the same; "Observe nature, she is our 'book' and when you realize the pattern that nature follows you will know the pattern of the entire Universe. And when you learn to listen without your ears, and ask without your voice, the story of creation will unfold."
Clue - our bodies follow this exact pattern.
Blessed Be

This depends on which pantheon the follower subscribes to. Check out the different stories for the different pantheons and culters, such as Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Norse, Celtic.

That at first there was the lady. She wanted a friend, so the lord was created. Together they made the earth and all creatures and plantlife on it. The lord is the sun and the lady is the moon. Wiccans honor the lady with full moon celebrations.

That is an EXTREMELY brief summary of what I'm told.

And thin K, Wicca is an ancient religion dating back to the times before Christianity.

Edit: Wicca believes that cetain people were chosen by the lord and the lady (the Spirit) and were gifted with the knowledge of healing and magick.

"Wicca" actually only dates back to 1954 (seriously!), and is a rather loosely thrown-together "theology" that draws on ancient beliefs from all around the world.

As a consequence is really has no "official" creation myth.
