I think what branch of service you choose should require homework on your part...and homework that you have not done! When you join the military (which is admiral and a respected job) you should know exactly what you are getting into. Dont come on a yahoo board to ask questions...but do your research ...good luck and hope you find the info you are looking for.....

Well; if you are looking for an action filled job in the service; but want to pursue a Career in the medical field after you leave the service, why not join the Army and become a combat medic? You'll be assigned to a combat unit and treat their wounded. This is your best option to have an "exciting job" in the Military; but also prepares you for your goals in the civilian world when you get out. Plus, it will look great on your resume since your prospective employer in the civilian world will know you're able to function in a high stress environment and get the job done.
About the 100% tuition for college; you'll get the G.I. bill. You'll pay into it for the first year of your enlistment. They'll give you a specific amount toward a degree and you'll be able to use your portion for up to ten years after your seperation from the service.

It all depends on what you want to do in the military and if that job has any use in the civilian world. You already said that you want to serve active for a short time, then join the Ca. ANG; well, what unts are in you local area? Check with them and see what they can provide you; you can serve in the Guard and still get college tuition, plus all the benefits of active duty while still serving locally.
Ge tin contact with a local NG recruiter and see what they can offer you.

There are only 4 branches of the military: Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines (5 if you count the Coast Guard). Each branch will have it's special points. So, you won't go wrong with either the Army or the Marines.

Where do you see yourself in six to eight years? You need to sit down at your kitchen table and ponder that. I read a lot of what you want in your question. I don't see any hint of what you are prepared to give in return. If you draw blanks from that introspection between now and next June, don't join any branch. Because any branch is going to test your potential and demand totally dedicated mature behavior from you. You will return from basic training and wonder why you used to hang with those guys you left behind. Your life will be changed forever. You will either love that change or regret it.
No candy coating from me. No recruiting spiel that sounds like a used car commercial. The military is in a strange business. We kill people and break things under orders. We also repair civilian items that have not been well-tended to in the countries in which we are stationed or visit. Things like repainting or rebuilding of orphanages and medically treating the local population. We are, in many respects, a foreign country. We have our own strange manners of dress and speech, our own private gods and taboos and our own totems. You will also take an oath to support and defend a document which only one in five of your fellow citizens has even read: the U.S. Constitution. And it is taken seriously by every one who swears or affirms that oath.
I wish you well, whatever your decision may be.

If you must Join then Join the USAF....
Listen to me "All do Respect" Now is not the time Too Join. In 2 to 3 years Maybe but not now.
Take it from a 26 year old who just lost his little brother (23) 5 months ago in Boquba Iraq. I joined the USAF and he joined the Army within 3 years he had to do 2 tours to Iraq. And out of my 4 years I had to do zero. I will be getting out in November and I dont plan on looking back.
Dont get me wrong its a beautiful thing to serve your Country and Im not here to spread anti-military slogans but I guess what Im trying to say is you know honestly I dont know I guess when I seen this question browsing through it just caught my attention LIVE YOUR LIFE and KNow what YOUR FIGHTING FOR. 23 years old is very young
I buried my Little brother less than 5 months ago. And it makes me Sick to my Stomach
If your going just to pay for school Join 1st USAF 2nd Coast Guard 3rd Navy... Army (last) Marines (Last)
Very last Your a young man and its time to start making your on decisions and Im sure your parents will be proud either route you take. But try to refrain from asking yahoo answers these questions because some people either dont know or will just say anything to get the points.
Congrats on Graduating and ask alot of questions dont be afraid.

If you want to go in the National Guard, you want the ARMY.
If you know the Guard Unit you want to belong to go there and see what kind of unit it is and what MOSs (Military Occupational Specialty) they have. The National Guard is Army or Air Force.

Same problem with me. I want to be a loadmaster, but there's really no future civillian job for that. I want a combat type of job, but I don't want to be a cop when I get out. (or I could do combat for 20 years and retire)
See a recruiter and talk to him.

Join the coast guard. You will find they can give you all the action you crave with a better chance of surviving your initial term of service.
