Hi I was wondering if a puggle is right for me (12) and my parents. I have a sister that is nine also. Here are some questions:

1. are they to hyper to handle?
2. when they are older is it hard to pick up?
3. do they let you pick them up without fussing around?
4. do they howl a lot?
Thank you so much. But I have 1 more thing for people that don't have puggles. They are real dogs look them up and you'll find it on google.

And if you have any pictures of them full grown please send them to me.

Thank you soooooo much for helping me <*3

The people who have answered your question so far are sad and pathetic and have never owned a puggle. Here's some real answers to your questions:

1. Puggles are hyper, at least as puppies. Like all dogs, they mellow out at around 2 years of age.

2. Depends on the size. My puggle does not mind being picked up at all. She is full grown and about 20 lbs, but they can get as big as 30 lbs.

3. Yes, generally. Can vary from dog to dog, but puggles tend to love wrestling and will let you handle them.

4. Puggles are part beagle, so they can howl. But it's much more muffled than that of a true beagle. If you're worried about neighbors, they won't hear it. We live in a townhouse and our neighbor can't hear our puggle "howling".

Good luck!

A "puggle", being a mix between a pug and a beagle, will not be the same as another "puggle". Some carry more traits of a pug while others a beagle. Basically, it's like putting all traits of both breeds, putting it in a hat, and randomly drawing. It's hard to predict how they will turn out. Some can be hyper and some can be quiet. Pug/beagle mixes do get bigger as they get older. They do get heavier as they grow, but if you can still lift them, it shouldn't be hard to carry around. As long as the dog doesn't mind you picking it up, then it should be fine. Some pug/beagle mixes can howl like a beagle, and some have more of a bark like a pug. Since they're a mixed breed, it's hard to tell how they will turn out unlike purebreds where it's easier to determine how they'll turn out. "Puggles" ARE dogs, but they ARE NOT purebreds. They ARE NOT recognized by the AKC. They are only recognized by crappy and scam registries that irresponsible backyard breeders and puppy mills use to make their dogs seem more valuable by slapping some crappy paper on them from a registry that doesn't care who enters it. No one has anything against mutts. A lot of people who have purebreds also have mixed breeds. The thing people are so against is the intentional breeding of these mixed breeds. There are far too many irresponsible backyard breeders and puppy mills out there that we really don't need any more people producing these mixed breeds. There are many of them sitting in shelters everywhere. You will NOT find a responsible and reputable "puggle" breeder because no responsible breeder would ever produce mixed breeds. No matter how well-kept and how great the dogs are, the bottom line is that you should only breed dogs to better the breed. When people start producing these designer mutts, they don't do that. I have never heard of any breeder who mixes breeds show their dogs, do health/genetic screenings, or carefully choose their breeding dogs because they really don't care. They only breed these designer breeds for $$ and could care less about their health. I would HIGHLY recommend looking into shelters for a pug/beagle mix. You'd be saving a life, and not supporting irresponsible breeders. http://www.petfinder.com can help you locate a pug/beagle mix in your area.

A "puggle" is a mix of a beagle and a pug. Any mixed breed dog is a MUTT.
Those individuals who are producing mutts and dubbing them with "Designer dog" names are motivated solely by greed and are not only perpetrating an unscrupulous scam on the public, but doing harm to the very dogs they breed. They do NO health screenings or genetic testing at all. They do not even breed to a standard, (because there is none). In the case, for example, of the "Puggle", they are risking the very lives of the dogs they produce by virtue of the breeds they are crossing (pug + beagle). A brachycephalic dog, (such as a pug) with the lung power and prey drive of a beagle would be in serious danger or dropping dead while playing on a hot day. In fact, someone on this list posted the question "why" did their neighbor's "puggle" suddenly die in it's sleep for no apparent reason.
Those "breeders" are very adamant in perpetuating the lie that "mutts are healthier", yet these puggles are already exhibiting epilepsy (a disease that has virtually been eradicated in the lines of responsible beagle breeders), before the age of one and a defect where the bones break very easily and do not properly heal. They don't guarantee to take back their dogs, so these sick animals are now growing in numbers in shelters. By the way, they charge more for a "puggle", than a beagle pup from a responsible breeder would cost. You are young. Please don't start your experience as a dog owner by supporting puppymillers and irresponsible breeding practices by buying a so-called "puggle".

OK....since they are a MIXED breed, you CANNOT predict the traits they will have. In a litter, you can have some that favor the Beagle, and others that favor the Pug. Unless you like the traits of BOTH breeds, do not get a Puggle. You do not know what you are getting when you see it!!!!!!!!!!!

We know they are REAL dogs, they are just not a REAL BREED!!! They are a MIX...hence the reason you cannot predict the nature of one pup over another....they do not breed true at all!!!!!!!!

If you want one, go for it. All we are saying is that you cannot predict the personality of a mutt. You can't. Not all Puggles even LOOK the same, let alone BEHAVE the same. Some are howling, digging, running beasts that night as well be Beagles. If you don't like that, stay away from the Puggle and get a Pug. You can predict the traits of a Pug.

Puggles are mutts. Plain and simple. MUTTS! Anyone that wants one can go online to petfinder and save one that someone doesn't want.

The only reason to breed is for the betterment of the breed. Anyone who breeds a puggle is a backyard breeder that is breeding them as a cash crop. Don't get sucked into that.

A puggle is not a breed and will most likely never be one. If you want a pug get a pug, if you want a beagle, get a beagle , if you want a mutt, please get one because shelters are full of them.

Would you buy a $20,000 car, but pay the price of a faerrari for it just because it is what you want. Get the kind of dog you won't but don't be suckered into paying 10 times more than what they are worth. Would you buy a timex watch for the same price as a Rolex? Dogs are no difference. If you want a mutt, get one from a shelter. Don't feed crooks for their greedy breeding of mutts. They don't care about the dogs. They only care about cashing in on the "designer breed" fad. The shelters are filling up with these designer dogs.

i agree with everyone else. a puggle is not a breed of dog. it is a MUTT. please do not go pay a whole bunch of money for a mix when you could go save a mix from your local shelter.
