Do you agree with this?

Question

Around here in all the small towns people just go around shooting cats and kittens, becase there are too many or they think they are pest. They will also do the same with dogs once in a while but not as often just as a way to get rid of them. The things is there is really nothing we can do because there are no humane soceitys or shelters the closest one is 30 miles away and they only have a 15 mile radius and the cops just ignore the complaints. We and my freinds have been saveing wild kittens out on a farm just because the lady is going to shoot them for no reason and it happens all the time. Got other ideas, and what do you think about these situations and what the people do?

Call the STATE police, tell them your local cops are ignoring the complaints and you want something done. Also, at the same time, write/call your local congressman and explain what sort of backwards podunct people live in y our town. At some point, someone's going to miss and kill a kid or someone's pet. This is something that does indeed happen, but that doesn't mean that it isn't animal cruelty and if your stupid local cops won't listen - go to the state police and explain what is going on and why you want it to stop.

Where are they discharging their firearms? Is where they are shooting in an illegal place? If so, your cops need to listen.

Round up as many friends and adults that are sick of this behaviour, sign petitions, and give it to the police, state police and your congressman.

I dont think its right but its also NOT humane to just let these animals run around without being cared for and having more kittens.

WHy dont you try doing something? Contact your closest shelter and let them know what's happening. They may be able to help, maybe be able to open a new shelter by you, or may know of a private rescue organization. If all else fails, you could try capturing them and working with a local vet to get them fixed, then release them back in the wild, at least they wont be having more babies =^..^=

On the Oregon coast, in Gold Beach, there is a designated area that a lot of people call the "Jetty Cats" its a non profit organization that local started when people kept dumping cats off at a jetty. They have a box where people can donate and you can visit the cats and take them food. They have local vets helping out with spays and neuters. Maybe you could work something out like this.

I can't believe the damn cops ignore your complaints!!!! How rude and sick of all these stupid people for doing this sort of thing. I wonder how they'd feel if people went around shooting them?

Keep contacting the police. Bug them enough and they'll eventually do something. I'm serious.

GOOD for you for saving kittens. Some people just don't understand that it's just not humane to be going around harming animals.

Maybe somehow start a protest? Call your city hall (if you have one by you) and tell them the problem. If they give you attitude, keep calling back and don't stop until they at least listen to you. Go to your neighbors and tell them how it upsets you and there are other ways to help with the animal population overload by you.

Or make signs on your computer; flyers maybe and pass them all around in mail boxes. Post them. Go the the nearest vet. Travel that 30mi to see if anyone can help you there.

Call a vet and tell them your whole situation and ask them if they know of any non-kill shelters that might be willing to help you out.

You are a good person for helping the kittens that you can.

That's tough since there are so few shelters around. I would search the web for animal groups within your state. Some animal groups have trap-spay/neuter-release programs. These groups will come out and trap specific cats within feral groups, spay/neuter them, and release them. So even if there isn't a local shelter, this would help control the population in a humane way.

You'll have to do some hunting for that on your own since I don't know where you live. Shoot over an email if you want more info.

The people who do that are sick and twisted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You need to drive down to the humane society and beg
and plead for help. 'Cause that is what I would do!!!!!!!!!
If they won't help you need to just ignore it, those people
could shoot you, I mean if they would shoot a cat or a dog
they either have to be on drugs, or vial human beings, those
type of people just disguist me!!! The only thing you should do
is like I said you yourself drive down to the humane society and
tell them you'll pay them fifty dollars if they can help. If not just
put up posters, that say " Don't kill cat or dogs, it is wrong"
otherwise you could get seriously hurt, and I don't want to
see that happen!!!

Well, it is one way to control the population. When feral, they are pests. They are also a public health risk with Rabies a big concern.
I think there are better way than shooting them, but unless someone is willing to trap, neuter, and find a place for them....it is the only option in many areas.
If you are "saving" them, they need to be altered or the population will be out of control in the new area. Saving them is not enough.

There are states where is is LEGAL and the authorites are helping!!!!!!! The problem is real!!!

Adding to the existing suggestions, be sure and include the fact that not all shots are fatal, and that some animals will only be wounded and left to die over a period of days. Not a pleasant thought, but it provides more horsepower for your side of the argument.

take the stray dog or cat to the vet to check if it is taged or have some kind of id on it or explain the situation to the mayor, he or she could do something.
