They are God's chosen people and will always be. Jesus Christ was a Jew, and God set the stage for His birth, life, death and resurrection over thousands of years, even long before the Hebrew people were formed into a nation, and His promises to them are applicable even today; as Paul writes in Romans, “for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”
Paul writes about the Jewish nation in Romans (chapter 11:8-34), with a hope for their future:
Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness!
For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry,
If by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them.
For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?
For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.
...
For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either.
Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.
And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
...
And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;
For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins."
Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers.
Jesus’ famous words in Matthew 5:23-24:
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. 25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. 26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
Therefore let us not despise our own brothers, who do believe in the same God as us.
For Paul concludes in Galatians Chapter 3:
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
May God bless us all,
Andrew

Im in the practice of converting to Judaism, and grew up in Baptist tradition. My experience is that most modern day Christians know little (if nothing) about the Jewish faith. I've met some that don't even know that Jewish texts come from the Old Testament of the Bible.
I think it is really sad that Christians don't make more of an effort to understand the history and traditions that their own religion stems from.

What would a practioner of the 1st century Jewish faith think about modern day Christianity?
edit: has anybody noticed that the original christians, including Jesus, Peter, Paul, etc. were a sect of Judaism called the Nazarenes? They were Jews that attended synagogue on Saturday---the seventh day, as it is written in the 10 commandments---not the 1st day as it was changed by the sole authority of the catholic church. They broke off from mainstream judaism by believing Jesus was the messiah, but still attended the synagogue with Jews that didn't believe in Jesus. They also had assemblies in their houses as well that were specific to their beliefs. However, what most people consider modern day Christianity was not formed until the counsil of Nicea in 325ad by the emperor Constantine. He changed the Jewish sabbath to the day he celebrated in his Mithras religion the day of the sun, ie. sunday, he sanctified the poenician fertility festival and called it easter after the godess Ishtar (pronounced eesh-tar---but as anyone can see that is really different from easter), the addition of trinitarian doctrines, etc were gifts to the "christian" faith by a roman emperor and everyone just followed suit. Eventually, the papal system immerged and followed Constantine's edicts and added more. Eventually the reformation happens and people break away from catholicism, but still keep institutions started by the catholic church. Modern day christianity is a product of 2000 years of changing and embracing pagan customs and also unbelievable amounts of persecution against the Jewish people. Besides ignorance, why did my answer receive thumbs down?

Although the Jews are the chosen people of God it doesn't mean that they don't have to accept Christ to receive eternal life. Some do and some don't but that's their choice. Just like every one Else. The Bible says all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. It also says no one comes to the Farther except by the son. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life.

Judaism is foolish. The writers of the New Testament wrote that the Jewish faith (Judaism) was no good 2000 years ago. They don't believe in Jesus as the Messiah. Following Judaism is a waste of time.

I have never had a high opinion of Judaism. This does not, however, affect my attitude toward practicing Jews, except to the extent their beliefs affect U.S. policy in the Mideast; i.e. the Jewish belief that Palestine was promised to them by God.
