I been on Metoprolol (lopressor) for a year as of this month. Now I want to get off it,I'm going to this new doc. and I told him I was on metoprolol for a year and I want him to try something eles on me. Even though he didn't gave metoprolol to me.
He wants me to STOP metoprolol and take this med. called Cardizem LA. To my knowledge you are not suppose to just stop metoprolol suddely. Even though this med. cardizem la use to slow the heart down could i still have bad effects from metoprolol,when i just stop taking metoprolol? I want someone who knows about this to really help me. thx

Get yourself a second opinion your right you shouldn't stop this medication abruptly, did the Doc. explain to you why he wanted to switch you so quickly are you having serious side effects call and ask him for more information and tell him your fears and that you would like a second opinion from another Doc. The LA means Long Acting so you would only take one pill or two per day, but ask for more information and don't be afraid to you have the right. Good luck

the only reason for tapering metoprolol is to see if the blood pressure goes up as you decrease the dose, indicating that you should stay on the drug. But your new doctor is prescribing a medication that is stronger than the metoprolol, so you need not worry about a taper.
