I had a lot of earaches as a kid. A hot compress or heating pad always helped. My grandmother, too, put some kind of warm oil in my ear. Perhaps it was the "sweet oil" that Kelly made reference to.

Another home remedy that Grandma had was to put a small amount of fresh, warm urine in the ear. Uh, I passed on that one.

Go get some garlic capsules or fresh garlic.. rub the fluid from the capsules in your ears and take a couple of them internally as well to get rid of any infection. You can rub the fresh garlic on your feet and also rub it into your ears as well.. just don't put too much into the ear if it is fresh as it will sting some. This seems to work wonders for ear infections. Do this three or four times per day for about a week and it will help. Lots of water to help your body flush any toxins as well. I hope this helps you.

My grandma used to warm a 12 teaspoon of "sweet oil" and pour into my ear before sleeping followed by a cotton ball to catch the drain of the meting ear wax. Sweet oil is found in nearly any drug or dept store.
