Does anyone have examples of misconceptions that people have about the catholic church with the true facts.?

Its very clear that a lot of people have misconceptions, I too had them. A lot of them spring up on these boards.

Catholics pray to mary.
Catholics believe their works will save them.
Purgatory can be lessened for a fee.

I mean its all so stupid, I read what people write and I shudder. People like that come across as being bery stupid. Not because I disagree with them (I can argue most of this from both sides) however it just shows a lack of knowledge, research, understanding.

So in an effort to clear things up lets list misconceptions that people have and then list what the real truth is, that might help people out a lot.

Now if someone explains something its pretty stupid to refute that based on your own belief.

So if someone explains how Catholics do not actualy pray to mary but ask for her prayers dont turn around and say "oh yes you do" because you come across as a fool!

Catholics pray to mary.
no we ask Mary's intercession. God & Jesus told us to honour thy mother and father. God didn't need to have a mother for His Son, He choose her. In Luke at the presentation of Jesus in the temple Mary is told that her soul too a sword shall pierce (like at the end of the Crucifixion) that that you too shall know the hearts of many. ne thing, however, Catholic understnd one very imporatant thing about Mary -- she is nothing without Jesus. Had she not laid down her life completely for God, she would just be another nice Jewish girl.

Catholics believe their works will save them.
nah, but we believe works are part and parcil of the whole package. once you are Saved you need to work at maintaining and sharing the gift of Grace. In Scriptures is says works without faith are dead as Faith without works are dead. We are taught to walk the walk, not just talk the talk. just read a little of James 2:2 also.....

Prayer yes, not stipends. while there is a $10 stipend for a mass to be said for someone, that is just to cover an infenticimal fraction of the costs AND to stop people from being greedy and not prayerful. In the past, waaaaaaay past there were greedy churches that DID sell indulgences, thnkfully this is no longer a practice.

priests are pedophiles - this is a baldfaced lie. less than .005% of ALL Roman Catholic Clerics have even been accused and the number is even smaller on those that have been convicted.

the pope is the anti-christ -- sorry but that greatly contridicts Scriptures when it says that any spirit (aka person) that confesses that Jesus is come in the flesh is of God. 1 John 4

I'm a Pagan and there is one thing that really divides the Catholics from most of the more strident Protestant religions that I must mention.

The Roman Catholic Church only accepts a person as a Roman Catholic when they have taken many classes as to what Catholicism expects of you. Some Protestant's ask a walk in if that person "accepts Jesus," throws the person in a cold water hot tub or creek and declares the walk in saved and a member of the church.

He also had a small problem with Jews he wrote this little gem the Jews and their lies Google it. OH and a small problem with the other reformers he wanted to kill them all also, Least not we forget he and the other so called reformers all credited the Catholic Chuch with giving them the Holy scripture. But Are buddy Luther removed a couple of the books of scriptue and added a couple of words all so the bible would agree with his beliefs. The Bible instructs us to honor the Lord's Supper until He comes again. The Catholic church discriminates against those not members of the church by not allowing them to participate in the Lord's Supper. How Christian is that.

i talked to catholics that worship and pray to mary.
one of my friends told me he thinks Jesus is holy because mary is holy...
i dont understand why you would try to talk to her anyway...shes human so she is dead...only God can hear you. none of the saints or mary can hear you
i understand your respect for her...but i dont think mary would even like you guys to pray to or to worship her
all this stuff is stupid but these are the things that catholics tell me...and i know quite a few
so its not like im just going by what other people think, i wouldnt care or believe them but im told all this by catholics!
