During the famine people were more or less forced to eat old grain that had been soiled and molded. The egyptians had a custom of feeding their first born 2 portions of food instead of just one contributing in the ill health of those children and their inevitable death. It was a pretty cool show on the national geographic channel about the exodus out of egypt. Scientists are trying to find explanations to the cause of the plagues and proof that the exodus of the hebrews out of bondage was an actual event.

If you care to look back at Moses' infancy, you will see that the Egyptians killed the first borns of all the Jews. An eye for an eye. However, I don't believe that those children (on both sides) were guilty of anything, and that God will remember them when the time comes.

No, God didn't kill children. The Egyptian people chose not to obey and honor the God of the Universe... they refused to even let Moses and the people of God to obey and honor their God. The Egyptian Pharaoh chose to bring on death to his family & nation. He was forewarned. He chose death.

This was the people's choice. There are consequences for not listening to God, the creator of our ears and hearts.
