well, we were the last to leave :P we helped clean up. but i know some brides and grooms leave near the end so people can wish them off and perhaps do the birdseed or bubbles towards the car.
3.5 to 4 hours is perfect sounding to me.

I'm not too keen on the idea that the bride and groom would leave earlier. Everyone is there to celebrate with them. As far as the length of the reception, that really varries. For us, the wedding is at 3pm at a church, reception starts right after at 4:30, cocktails or what not, and dinner around 6:30, and the dance and what not lasts till 1am. So is that long? I don't know, but everyones going to want to have a great time and dance the night away! I don't plan on leaving early!!

My husband and I left early. Most couples do - the idea is for the guests see you off on your honeymoon. You usually arrive at the reception a little after the guests- this gives you and your new bride a few precious moments to register that you're now married! As far as the length - most guests only stay about 2 hours then leave- family may stay longer. But stay for awhile - long enough to see everyone - eat, dance and leave. 4 hours is not too long - I've seen them last much longer!

I just got married, we only had a 4 hour reception, we got there about 1/2 hour in and we both regretted not having it be at least an hour longer. We tried to leave about 1/2 hour before the end, but we were having too much fun so we stayed for almost the whole thing, it depends on what kind of send off you want.

The custom of the bride and groom leaving early does not take place plenty anymore - i'm shocked to ascertain people nonetheless do it. i understand while my husband and that i've got been given married 5 years in the past, we stayed for the completed reception through fact we spent distinctive money on it and we would have enjoyed to savor each and every minute of it. although, we had our wedding ceremony on a Sunday evening and because maximum of our visitors have been working the next day, they somewhat plenty all left by using 9:30-10 and the reception ended by using 10:30, which worked out super for us.

4 hours sounds about right. Bride and groom can leave whenever they want, after hanging out with the guests for a little while and cutting the cake and stuff; they don't have to wait until the last guest leaves. (If I was the bride, I'd stay and party up as long as possible - but that's just me!)

Most receptions have a 1 hour cocktail hour - during which the couple usually takes all pictures. Then the actual reception last 3-4 hours with dinner service - plated or buffet - taking no more than 1 hour. I have had couples who are the last ones out, besides myself and the rest of the vendors, and others who leave after they cut the cake and allow their guests to keep partying. It really depends on what you want to do.

Most weddings I go to are 5 hours. 1 hour for cocktail hour before bride and groom are announced and 4 hours for dinner, dancing, cake cutting, etc. In the old days the bride and groom would leave early but now brides and grooms are the last to leave. This is most likely because bride's and groom's pay for part or all of the event and want to enjoy the festivities. The night goes so quickly and there is so much to do and people to greet that there really isn't time to leave early.

As the guests of honor, the bride & groom should technically leave first. There are obvious exceptions to this, such as the elderly, or those with children, but etiquette says all guests stay until the guests of honor leave.
A wedding reception typically lasts for about 4-5 hours, but this can vary, depending on the couple, the location, etc. The site you're at, for example, might have another wedding later in the day that they'll need to set up for, so they'll need you out at a particular time...Alternately, you might decide that this should be an all day party, and go for 10 hours.

Well, it depends on what kind of wedding you are having. If you are Christian then you can pretty much leave when you want. However it is common courtesy to leave after your guests are gone. I just went to my cousins wedding a few weeks ago, but they were not Christian. The were baptists. Their reception only went on for an hour and a half. They stayed until only their parents and me and my parents remained. Then, we left with their parents and they left to go to a hospital where the bride's maid who had fainted in the middle of the wedding was staying... but basically they waited until most people were gone then left. I hope this helps!
