Osgood-Schlatter is really not a disease. It is simply an irritation of the growth plate at the tibial tuberosity. This growth plate is a layer of cartilage where the tibia can grow. It is only present until about age 10 or so then it closes. When a kid is active in sports and has a lot of kicking motions this irritates this growth plate and causes pain. There is a ace type bandage that can be worn. This is not the same as tendonitis but easily confused because the cause is the same. Young kids in sports. This condition is extremely common.
