No, and the fact that you're asking this question means you have no idea about breeding. Please leave it to the professionals, and have your pets spayed/neutered.

Yes, of course they *can* breed, but you shouldn't let it happen. When you breed animals that are that closely related, any bad genetics traits will increase and become dominant.
About "line breeding"... it's VERY seldom parent-to-child, but usually aunt/uncle-to-niece/nephew, or grandparent-to-grandchild. In those cases, the negative genetic traits are usually not increased and the positive ones enhanced because there are outside line genetics introduced. Remember, line breeding is best done by breeders who thoroughly know their animal's bloodlines and each animal's genetics.

Separate the mother dog when she is in heat so she will not be bred by her son, or have one of the two neutered to save a lot of trouble.

No, basically. Gross and irresponsible.

Gene pools require a wide selection (i.e genes from un-related individuals with totally different DNA) in order for future generations to be successful. Relations as close as mother and son risk having genetically abnormal offspring -even if this is not in the form of immediately obvious physical abnormalities, the likelihood is problems will present themselves as the animal grows in the form of organ dysfunction.

So just in case you were thinking of it - don't.

Technically they can, but the breeder (who has been breeding for 8 years) I got my golden retriever puppy from recently said she doesn't like the idea of it and wouldn't mess with it because it's still inbreeding. You'd be better off looking for a stud male for the female or vice versa that don't share close genes.

no responsible dog breeder would ever initially breed related dogs because of the risk
however i have heard that if a dog mom and son has puppies they Will be fine but if a dog father and daughter have puppies they will not turn out OK
i recommend getting the dogs fixed

Inbreeding doesn't cause defects, but it will make any bad recessive genes the parents have in common show up in the puppies. The son received half of his genes from his mother, so without doubt, they share some in common. Good and/or bad. That's why it's so risky. (BTW, linebreeding and inbreeding are not exactly the same.)

Some people do that, but it's a really bad idea. Think what would happen if a human mother and son bred. The offspring would be at serious risk for all kinds of problems.

Yes they can but it is not a good idea unless you are very knowledgeable about genetics because all the genes (good and bad) will double up in the puppies.

That's too close for me. I've been breeding for twenty years and I leave it up to others more experienced then myself. I certainly wouldn't do it. I wouldn't even pretend to have the know how on this on.

This not advisable if you don't know what your doing. I have only met a very few breeders who have attempted this and where successful with that was produced. I would strongly advise against this.

Could this happen yes, should it happen than the answer is NO.
