You are mistaken. The PS3 has a Blu ray player so the only high def DVD it will play is a Blu Ray DVD. It will NOT play HD DVD's. It will play regular DVD's but I am not aware that it is multi regional.

In case you haven't been paying much attention for the next gen format, the PS3 doesn't play HD-DVD, only Blu-ray, DVD, and CD.

There was at one point where Toshiba and Sony planned to merge the two, but at the last minute, the deal fell apart, so each went their own way. Sony stayed with Blu-ray, and Toshiba stayed with HD-DVD.

There are two separate and different formats: Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. Anyways, the PlayStation 3 ONLY plays Blu-Ray discs, regular DVDs, and PS1, PS2, PS3 games. If you want to play an HD-DVD, you will have to buy a HD-DVD player. You can always go to the darkside by buying a crapbox 360..um...Xbox 360...and a separate HD-DVD drive. I never suggest anyone to buy a Xbox 360.

As Previously Stated The Playstation 3 uses Blu-Ray technology endorsed by Sony. HD-DVD Is a tottaly different disk and will only play in HD-DVD players and/or the addon HD-DVD Drive for the Xbox360. :-)

Think of HD-DVD as oranges, and Blu-Ray as apples. While both are tasty, they're not the same.

I'd take the HD-DVD and see if you can return it for a Blu-Ray DVD, if the movie is also in Blu-Ray, that is. Otherwise, put it on ebay.

THe ps3 uses Blue Ray for HiDef not Hd dvd's. Sorry you'll have to get BlueRay.

It will upscale regular DVD's to Hidef. But it won't play HDDVDs

HDDVD doesn't work. Sony supports blu-ray. Blu-ray is better anyway.

PS3 is a Basic media player so it just for BR so it will only play BR movies.
