The matron usually stand closest, then the maid then the bridesmaids. I am not sure why the matron stands first, but thats how it is.

There is usually either a Matron of Honor or a Maid of Honor, not both. In that situation the Matron/Maid of honor stands next to the bride, the Bridesmaids next to the MOH.
Matron of Honor- is married
Maid of Honor- is not.

Yes, usually the maid/matron of honor stands next to the bride. If you have both a maid of honor and a matron of honor, you can choose whichever you want to stand closest to you.

It is up to you ... there is no right or wrong. Most brides choose to have their Maid of Honor go first down the aisle and then their Matron of Honor. The Matron of Honor will end up closest to the bride.

There is only ONE position - a Maid (unmarried woman) OR a Matron (married). The other would be a bridesmaid, and the MOH stands next to the bride.

The matron of honor and the maid of honor are basically the same thing. It's just, if the woman is UNMARRIED she is a maid of honor. If she is MARRIED, then she becomes the matron of honor.

The name refers to the same person. A maid of honor is an unmarried woman. A matron of honor is a married woman. Otherwise it's the same thing.
