It kind of depends on how your body works. I found that calorie counting did not help me at all, while low carb worked great! But trial and error is the only way to tell. Just don't think a low carb diet means eating only meat, fish, eggs, etc. Use a guide like Atkins, South Beach, or the Zone. They all tell you how to do low carb properly. It seems to me that when I lose weight, the first place it shows is my ankles.

It is a headache to count calories, carbs , fats or points.
Imagine how diificult it is to eat out .
Just eat only complex carbs, lean meat, and lots of veggies. It will make your meals low caloried and yet filling and healthy.
I am on low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein and a hour brisk walk 5 times a week, and I have lost 31lbs and gain better health. I am now maintaining my 108lbs for more than a year.
Details such as my experience, types of foods and veggies to eat, healthy low fat snacks, meals, recipes, walking as an exercise and to shape the body etc etc, are in my blog.

Calories. Just make sure your diet is balanced, too many carbs are not healthy either. Be careful with them both. The idea is to eat just under the recommended daily intake of calories, then you will lose weight (as long as you're active).

You need to count calories more than anything - the fastest and most healthy way to lose weight is to burn more calories per day than you eat. When you lose weight, it shows in your face first because it's harder to notice a slight difference of size anywhere else on your body. However, if you diet and exercise, you will lose weight and it will show everywhere. Good luck!

counting calories is too restrictive for a lot of people. i do a lot of pageants so i frequently have to drop a few pounds before a pageant to make sure my dress still fits right and my body still looks good for swimsuit and i have always been most sucessful with low carb. you can eat unlimited amounts of eggs, lean meats, skinless grilled chicken, and low carb veggies in light ranch dressing like cucumbers and celery.....and nuts and peanut butter makes for good snacks!! but ive always just found it easier low-carbing because you dont have to go hungry and you still lose the weight!! atkins reccomends less than 20 grams the first 2 weeks and no fruits and gradual increase as you go along...hope that helps!!!

you should count carbs and sugar. pay special attention to your carb total and to the amount of sugar you take in. i know its hard but you should avoid simple sugars and carbs that come in the form of cookies, cakes and candy. also you will want to avoid soft drinks and fruit juices.
make sure that most of your carbs come from whole grain foods and drink plenty of water.
protein is very important. fish, chicken and lean cuts of beef are best.
you should do some form of intense cardio 4 times a week for at least 20 minutes.
if you have discipline to stick with a program you will start to shed pounds within a week.
always consult with your physician before starting any exercise program.
good luck.
