Sorry Pat, the closest I could get for an all terrain bike is $199 for a Diamondback Outlook. It is intended for on road and offroad on smooth trails.

As others stated, you'll be hard pressed to find a $150 bike that's awesome, except maybe a used bike, or a new '06 low-end bike that hasn't sold; then there's the issue of actually finding any one of these bikes.

As Anomaly stated, Performance is having bike sales, and if you have a physical store local to you, you might try going in there and negotiating the price on a lower end bike. If you are buying a helmet and other gear at the same time, they might be inclined to sell you the bike at a better discount; don't expect more than 10% off price listed on the bike ticket though, bike margins are relatively low.

Alternatively, and I'm loathe to say it, but, you could try Costco for a sub-$200 bike. Costco's bike are by no means "great" bikes, but the "awesome" factor is that Costco will take that bike back if you have issues, and give you another with no hassle.

You could also check out Craigslist http://www.craigslist.com for used bikes.

Happy hunting!

stay clear of wal-mart and the different shops in any respect value. In a motorbike, the money is going an prolonged way. i began out off with a Trek 6500 for decrease than $800. in case you have the money - spend it. you in all probability cant have sufficient money Carbon Fiber. pass with aluminum, that's particularly good, yet lots lighter and stiffer than metallic.the 1st step is what style, there are a number of distinctive types, yet for around $3 hundred, all you're able to get is an XC(ccross united states) hardtail. you choose sturdy componesnt, ideally shimano, (not suntour) and you choose to purchase it from a knowledgable motorbike shop. I initially became making plans for a $3 hundred motorbike, yet went for a $750. while you're tight on money, ask if the shop has any older fashions in inventory. perfect now, '06 and a few '05 fashions are nonetheless available, shop reflects that did not sell. they are in a position back off lots extra comparatively inexpensive than new ones. A used motorbike is likewise an determination, i reccomend the 'choose advert' carry a knowledgable buddy or carry out a little in intensity study. Make a catalogue of effective properties you like (alongside with lockout for fork) and verify that if its a used motorbike, it is isnt too worn or too previous. Get a motorbike with racing geometry, not a convenience motorbike or possibly a hybrid. And final yet not least, do not enable a shop supervisor or a used motorbike broker communicate you into issues you do not want or do not choose, be recommended. I reccommend an area motorbike shop, as they're extra handy to get fix finished at, mine is only down the line and it got here with a one 3 hundred and sixty 5 days checkover, for alterations made after breaking it in. (basically neccesary on new motorcycles)

Performance Bike is having a huge sale right now, and the cheapest mountain bike they have is an Iron Horse Maverick for $199.00. I would not call it awesome, just basic. Target has a Schwinn on sale for $119.00, but it's a one-size-fits-most POS. Even the cheapest Trek - the 820 - has an msrp of $250. That said, $150 and awesome don't go together when describing a mountain bike.

Try second hand, or ex rental.

Failing that, do not go for something that does too much (Full sussers with disk brakes for $100). Keep it simple. Go for V brakes. Try for branded parts - Shimano probable. You will probably also have a steel frame. Get a good, solid bike. Try Diamondback. They are not bad for the money.

Luck

You are not going to find an "awesome" mountain bike for $150 or less...

Ever!

(unless someone is selling one 2nd hand...)

Not going to happen. Unless you're 8 years old and would be happy with a Walmart bike.

Your best bet would be to check the paper for some one selling a used bike.

You may be able to find a rear hub, or maybe crankarms (not even the cogs) that are awesome for $200.
