Pagan Witch
Over a year ago I met a lady, M, who lived across the street. She introduced herself and invited me over. Before I left she announced she was JW and asked about my religion. "I never talk religion nor politics with friends - quickest way to make enemies!" I replied.
During the following year we became friends, even though she attempted monthly to involve religion in our conversation with little questions like;
M -"How come you don't read the bible?"
Pagan - "Because I'm not jewish."
M." In so and so, chapter so and so, verse so and so it says,................. What do you think about that?'
Pagan - "I don't"
M - "don't you believe in GOd?"
Pagan - Yes, just not yours, nor your idea of it."
Always I'd quickly change the subject. In the meantime, because she was very obese she had a hard time lifting her arms and walking, I dried and styled her hair, did the foot work as she shopped, painted the interior of her house, ran errands, cried with her when she found out

she had MS. We had fun and laughed a lot during the year. One day she couldn't stand it anymore and blurted out, "Ok, just what religion are you??"
I replied, Well, M, I'm a Pagan."
She threw her fingers in the sign of the cross, a look of demonic possession crossed her face as she screamed "False Gods! False Gods! Get out! Get out!"
Please, do not judge M. Just show me where I was possessed by the devil in my wicked wicked ways. P.S. I have other JW, CHristian, Catholic, and holy rollin friends - we just don't talk about religion!

how unutterably sad. How unnecessary. We live our lives close by and help each other, and when something like this happens it is very discouraging. There is no devil, but if there was, he jumped right into her unfortunate skin that day.
More like she was possessed by the real devil, the name of which is CHRISTIANITY. No one is born into this word thinking the way she does, someone taught her this hate. And everyone is born into this world with a great capacity for love. The evil is when that capacity is squelched by the hatred and mistrust taught to babies by their CHRISTIAN parents. How sad.
What say you, Christians????Who was the real devil in this sad situation?

You would think it would be more important, wouldn't you?
I have a friend, raised JW, who's been on the fence a long time about continuing that path. As a result, I've learned a lot about more about their traditions than most outsiders do. Like a lot of the Abrahamic religions, it presents itself as being "the only truth." Anything else, no matter how attractive on the surface, is a lie, according to them.
So...I'm afraid there might not be much you can do. Even if she decides to allow you back into her life, it will likely be with an eye to converting you. It will be well meant--she wants her friend with her in the "kingdom on earth" that JW's believe will be established for them. At that point, it's up to you to decide if you still want to be her friend under those circumstances.

I notice this too. When you're in a room full of Christians once someone mentions the word "Atheist" everybody tenses up and the room falls silent like the person who said the word just confessed to committing murder or something. My guess is that they are so shocked that someone can be so sociable, good and caring and have atheistic beliefs because according to their interpretation of the Bible that shouldn't be. I like people who have different beliefs then the mob. If they can't even tolerate a different opinion based on free will they probably weren't friends to begin with.

You're being wiling to actually do the work of helping her out when she needed it was FAR more Christian (as in following the example of Jesus) than was HER reaction to YOU over your Religious beliefs. I wouldn't go so far as to say that either you nor she were possessed by Satan. But I would readily state that SHE was NOT possessed by the spirit of Jesus, who would have been very thankful for all of your help and wouldn't have bothered about your religious beliefs.
Just MY opinion on all of that. But YOU did a good service to and for her, and SHE repaid it with intolerance and hatred. Which just goes to prove the old adage, "No good deed goes unpunished". LOL. However you WILL receive your Karmic payback many times over. Maybe not from her, but from somewhere or someone else.
Brightest Blessings,

So....just because she tried to get you to read the Bible, she's possessed by the Devil?
Wow.
----AAh, OK. Well, she's an old lady, and that's the way she was raised. She doesn't mean any harm, and she can't help it. You can't get an old lady to change her ways. Plus, you never mentioned her specifically saying you were possessed.

It just doesn't sound like she was very....with it. You obviously aren't possessed, and neither was she. It is just plain sad that that woman would refuse to show the love of Jesus to someone, simply because they didn't follow Him.
