I'm using Windows Media Player 11 and it plays AVI files.

If you don't have "11" go to Microsoft.com and search on it and download the latest version.

Then launch the media player. Click on "tools" and then on "options". Click on the "File Types" tab and then at the bottom of the window, click on the box that says "Select All". This will set the media player to play all the file types listed. Click on "Apply" and then on "Ok".

Close the media player, and then open it again to ensure you put those settings into effect.

Try playing an AVI file. It should play just fine.

Hope this helps.

You are having a common problem. I am giving you a link to read an excellent description of the problem with screen print images. Your PC will recognize AVI and Quicktime formats. However, AVI seems to be a catchall name to hold an assortment of formats. You will need to go to the Properties page of the file, and click on Preview to see if it will come up. You may have to go to the Details page and select a size, that is how many bits per pixel, so that your PC can handle it.

Most likely the AVI is DIVX encoded. WMP does not have a good DIVX codex. (not that I can get working).

I use my DVD playing software (SonicPlayer) or have downloaded the DIVX player.

Maybe you need to update the codecs. Go to help in Windows Media Player and update. If not, get the DIVX player online free.. http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/
