Ohhh, well my Mom was not the best cook but on Sunday's my Dad made a mean pot roast and usually put the French Onion dry soup mix on it, so I suppose when I smell that it reminds me of Sunday afternoons in my childhood.

The aromas of certain foods definitely recall pleasant events. I think of my mom's chocolate chip cookies whenever I eat cookies from another source. No one, including myself, has ever duplicated my mom's recipe. Funny part is, she never actually followed a recipe, per se. It was a dash of this and a sprinkle of that. Never made them the same way twice, but they were the best I ever tasted.

Garden fresh tomatoes.

My grandparents use to sell them when I was a kid and me and 2 of my cousins would sit at the table "selling" them with a salt shaker and eat them until we were nearly sick.

I still love them and one bite into one and I can see the scene as vividly as if it was yesterday.

Taste is just one of the senses and I think any of them can be tied to a memory.

Pasta with meat sauce, peanut butter and jelly, and macaroni and cheese remind me of my grandma's house. I think memory is closely linked with the sense of smell.

Tourtiere, scrambled eggs, baked beans and crepes all covered in real maple syrup. Some pickled beets too!

Yeah, we don't like veggies in Quebec.

fried chicken. There's one place about an hour away that makes it just like my mother's. When I bite into it I think I'm on the back patio.

Fried catfish, hushpuppies and deep fried taters. With a big glass of sweet tea of course! Or biscuits & milk gravy (NOT with sausage). :-)
