South America, before the Spaniards, was inhabited by Amerindian peoples of different degrees of civilisation. Also, many Amerindian languages and dialects were (and still are) spoken. The term "invasion" is not perhaps the most adequate. They discovered, for Spain, the different lands that now compose South America, together with the Portuguese, occupied and colonised them. In the late XVIII and early XIX centuries, the different colonies created by the Spanish decided to become independent but since their language, by then was Spanish that had replaced the many Indian languages, they kept it since they were not, for the most part, Amerindians any longer but also whites of European parentage, mestizos (mixture of European and Amerindian), blacks and mulattoes (mixed white and black).

Many countries invaded other countries over the years - its human and political nature.

Central and South America speak Spanish because Spainards settled the area (except for Brazil with was settled by the Portuguese, hence they speak Portuguese).

The languauge before that was of Native American decent. It's been almost wiped out of memory. No one speaks it anymore. The Incas, Mayans, Aztecs, Cherokees, Pueblos, Iroqious, Creek, etc, all spoke a different language but with simualr dialects based on their location. After the 'discovery' of the New World, the people we killed, much of their hertiage and language disappearing with them.

Thank the white people for that.

Before South America was invaded, they talked their respective indigenous dialects every country. Remember that before Spanish Colonization there were indigenous people that established not only in South, but ALL America, and those people migrated from Asia to America crossing the Bering Strait.

Hope this helps!!!

It depends on what part of Mexico you're talking about. There are many Spaniards in Mexico-so they speak straight Spanish from Spain. Michoacan is heavily populated by Italians (Italo-Messicano) and they speak it with their own touch. Then you also have the indigenous parts (much like the U.S. has Cherokee, etc.) and these Indian parts even speak their own Indian dialects (not Spanish at all) but when they speak Spanish, they give it their own touch as well. It's like in the states, you have the New York accent, in the South, you have the Southern drawl and in Califorrnia, you have the yuppie talk.

cristopher colombus was a portuguese explorer, funded by the spanish king ferdanan and queen isabella. All of their resources came from the spanish government. CC (christopher colombus, or Cristobal Colon his real name) discovered central and south america first (hoduras i think) and from there, when the spanish government learned of the land, which was inhabited by mayan and mapuche indians (as well as others) spanish troops came to settle the land and set up colonies, and take advantage of the lands minerals (gold, coal, diamonds, everything) and other resources.

the original inhabitants of central and south america as well as mexico in north america were indians, mayan, incan, aztec, mapuche, etc) and those dialects were the languages spoken. Spanish was only introduced through the spaniards.

These languages still exist today. There are many latino american people who speak both spanish and the ancient dialects of their ancestors, and some even live in remote areas where these indian dialects are prevalent and dominant.

there exists so many dialects of spanish due to the mixing of the cultures and languages of the original inhabitants and the spaniards. That is also why the south american people tend to have darker skin, dark hair and dark eyes, from indian ancestory.

hope this helps

Now, I'm gonna answer your question:

"so why do south americans speak spanish when it was invaded?"
Not all South America speak Spanish. Brazil speaks Portuguese, Guyana speaks English, Suriname speaks Dutch and French Guyana speaks French. I'll reformulate your question...
"so why do some south americans speak spanish when it was invaded?"
This is so stupid as asking why the US speaks English, during colonization many Spanish moved to South America, they continued to speak Spanish there, their sons, obvioulsy, kept speaking the language of their parents. Eventually South American countries became independent and everybody kept speaking Spanish, including non-white South Americans because that was the official language.

"what language did south america speak before spain invaded"?
Before Spanish invasion South America was inhabited by several indigenous nations, each one with their own language. Some natives languages are still spoken in South America by native South Americans. Guarani is spoken by 4 million people in Paraguay, it's the official language of Paraguay together with Spanish. Quechua is spoken by 14 million people in Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador, in all those countries it's one of the official languages. Aimara is spoken by 2 million people in Bolivia and Peru, in both countries its one of the official languages.

Breeding and intra-cultural families learning the dominant parents culture and eventually spreading nationwide. Same thing in America, notice we don't speak Native American - but wild enough - they do now.
