At present a Vietnam Veteran who returned disabled and receives a small disability pension for his impairment. If he is unable to work he is eligible for a Service Pension (Aged Pension). But his disability pension is classed as income, so if he receives 'Rent Assistance', he only receives a percentage of assistance, while any other pensioner receives a greater amount. So a Veteran is discriminated against for fighting a Government induced war.

You are quite correct bnks_rbyn. An Australian returned person can be 70% disabled and get the Disability Pension. But if he/she is unable to use the other 30% to find work, then they can apply for the Service Pension which is similar to unemployment Benefits. However the Government will class the Disablity payment as income and deduct a percentage from Rental Assistance etc. Whilst a person who has been unemployed all their lives can claim the maximum Rental Assistance. It is an anomaly that the Government hasn't addressed because even the Returned Services League hasn't a delegate strong enough to address this problem. So the Government sit's on their collective hands until pressure is applied. And there is nobody able to address the problem.
So you can serve your country and get injured, and expect a pittance of a pension for the sacrifice you made, and be just another bit of cannon fodder for Politicians who just granted themselves a raise in wages that surpasses your annual income. The Government sucks.

You didn't say, so I will assume you are Australian. We had similar laws that conflicted in the US, and it took many years to resolve, and several lawsuits against the Government. Disability pensions are not ordinary income. Sadly, we are in a minority, and the memory of Vietnam is fading. The only hope is to unite and file a class action suit. It is clearly an injustice.

As a Vietnam Veteran who has dealt with administrations for years regarding PTSD and Agent Orange, do you find that surprising? I don't!

The government can give Trillions to corporate welfare and tax cuts for the rich! They always seem to lack the money to pay for VA hospitals or the wounded! That is a blight on America, and has been for decades! You think they REALLY care about the troops! I don't and never have!

Many people wrap themselves in the flag and then disgrace those wounded in combat!
