In the state of Georgia, is it possible for a misdemeanor bench warrant for a Minor In Possession of Alcohol to turn into a felony warrant? I now live in California and have been here for the past 5 years. I received a bench warrant in 2002 (right after moving away) for a M.I.P. and about two years ago when I was in a friend of mine's car and he was stopped by a police officer, the officer ran my license and told me there was a felony warrant for my arrest in the state of Georgia. But I thought that if it was a felony that I would be expedited, but he said nothing of the matter. So I don't know if he meant to shake me up and was lying about it being a felony. I don't see how it is possible for a bench warrant (issued when you don't show up to court) for a misdemeanor of being drunk and underage could turn into a felony. Please help!

It is possible that the warrant isn't for the possession, since you didn't go to court and moved out of state, you are now a Fugitive from Justice in addition to having been a minor in possession. You also probably have a warrant for Failure to Appear or a show cause warrant.

Yes, they could extradite (not expedite) but it'd be expensive and you're probably not a high priority.

This is something you want to take care of though. You need to see an attorney now. Don't wait until Dog the Bounty Hunter shows up to drive you to Georgia.

A good attorney may be able to make this all go away without you having to go back to Georgia.

Your original arrest was for a misdeamenor. However, failure to appear to an order of the court is a felony.

You'll know when you try to get a gov't job or work for a corporation.
