I think a Hawaiian wedding sounds great. You can do a lot without having a pig roast. Serve pina coladas and mango daquiris as your "signature drinks." Hand out leis as a favor. Decorate with grass skirts, etc. You'll be able to find a TON of hawaiin themed items at the party store or at Oriental Trading. Have your caterer make pineapple chicken or something like that so it feels festive.
Good luck!

I think it would be a great thought. Weddings of Hawaii have had the privilege to assist thousands of couples with their wedding and vow renewal plans. Hawaiian flowers and especially Hawaiian leis are very popular as wedding flowers.Hawaiian leis can be used in place of or in conjunction with bouquets or corsages for the bride or any member of the wedding party. I'm married and Ii live at Blaine. I also used Hawaiian flowers in my marriage ceremony from Exotic Hawaii Flowers. This is one of the best florist shop in Blaine.

That's a great idea. We were married in Hawaii (where I am from) so here's what we did. All of our mainland guests loved it.
Begin the wedding procession with a Hawaiian chant. A pastor friend of ours entered the church first, and gave the greeting/opening prayer in Hawaiian as he walked down the center aisle. Very cool.
We used tons of tropical flowers for decorations at both the wedding and the reception. Also, you can use palm tree fronds to decorate poles (tie/braid them around the pole). Green is as tropical a color as yellow, red, etc.; so don't feel you need to spend lots on money on flowers. We actually went and picked our own stuff in the wild. Work with your florist on economical ideas for living color.
Leis are a part of every special occasion in Hawaii. Here's how we used them. The guys wore maile leaf leis (with the groom wearing a double lei). These are very masculine looking leis, and look great on a tuxedo. The ladies did not wear leis (but got gold plumeria earrings instead) until the reception. The bride had white flowers (tuberose) in her hair - fragrant and beautiful. And we gave leis to our mother-in-laws (bride to groom's mom/groom to bride's mom) after my wife's dad escorted her in, right after "who gives the bride away..."
For the reception's decorations, we had lots of green leaves woven/tied to poles and banisters, stapled to table edges, and such with a couple of big tropical floral displays placed at the entrance and by the wedding party table. We used purple and white aloha print bands to decorate white candles on the tables, with small woven (lauhala) baskets holding the favor inside (a wedding cookie). We also had table runners made from the same aloha print as the candle decorations. We just bought yards of the cloth and cut the runners and candle bands ourselves.
As far as food, we went with a buffet of three main dishes: teriyaki chicken, lime-marinated mahi mahi, and grilled sirloin steaks. Kalua pig is not required to be a Hawaiian meal. But sticky white rice is! We also had green salad and potato/mac salad. The wedding cake was a traditional cake decorated with purple and white orchids around the setting.
We had live music, since many friends are local musicians. You may be able to find a band that plays Hawaiian music locally. I would also suggest the following if you want to play background music from a CD:
- Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (very good, almost overused)
- Palolo (lively mix of old school and new Hawaiian music)
- Ka'au Crater Boys (more modern Hawaiian music)
- Makaha Sons (mellow Hawaiian harmonies)
- Brothers Cazimero (very mellow, but classic)
You should be able to find most of the stuff we used (except the chant) through the internet, especially since Hawaiian themes are really influencing today's culture. I hope you have got a lot of useful ideas from this. Have a great wedding - and an even better marriage.
~ Aloha

If you want a theme wedding, then I say go for it. I think a Hawaiian theme wedding can be really elegant and tasteful. Just use lots of tropical flowers as decoration. I would skip the tiki torches and flower leis, and maybe use seashells and colored sand with candles as centerpieces. Chocolate covered macadamia nuts would make great favors.
I found a few sites for you.
Good luck!

A Hawaiian themed wedding sounds great. Particularly as it ties in with your honeymoon. It would be excellent if you are having a beach wedding. Go for it.

Sounds awesome. Guests could all get a flower lei as they arrive! The colours and beauty of Hawaii would lend themselves really well to a wedding theme. Good luck with it.

(some of their stuff is tacky but some of it works) for some great hawaiian music check out "iz" israel kamakawiwo'ole

i think it would be ok. you could name the tables at the reception after various locations in hawaii.
you dont have to do a pig roast, there is way more food in hawaii than just roasted pig! lol
id try for a luauu chic kind of vibe...tiki torches and leis and things, but like, an upscale version.
