Older people can not walk as fast as the other people, and they get scared in crowded places.Me,I have claustrophobia and,I went to the astro dome in Houston,Texas one time, and when ever one was leaving.I got lost from my husband. The people were so packed getting out that I was just carried with the crowd. Scared beyond belief and lost.I am only 5 foot tall and the crowd seamed like giants.I made it to a wall and put my back to the wall and cried like a baby.I was only 52 at the time. Now I am 64 and disabled.I avoid all crowds.Because I found out first hand People don't give a flting fig if you are scared or lost. the thing you should have done was ask the old lady if she was alright,Did she need help? sick? but no you get annoyed.Well Miss, someday you are going to be the old lady, and at the rate this world is going, you will just be thrown down and walked on.You are probley thinking, she should just stay at home.Well, some older people have no one to shop for them, and have to do it there selves,or starve to death. Why, don't you go and spend a Sun.afternoon at a rest home, and see how beautiful these annoying old people are. They lived in a different time, when people cared. It is hard for them to understand that young people just don't give a damn.

Some people stop as soon as they've got through the doors into a busy shop, or when they've just got to the top of an escalator, oblivious of anyone behind them. It seems to be mostly old people and is very annoying. Hard though it is to be patient, it's good to remember that earlier in life they probably complained about the same thing and that one day you might be in their place doing the stopping. We all tend to be vague and inattentive at times. How many people have you seen getting on a crowded tube train aparently unaware that people are still trying to get off, or driving at 38mph down a single carriageway road for mile after tedious mile, in a 50 limit, trailing a long line of cars behind them who can't pass because it isn't safe? Why don't the slo-mo's pull over when they can and let the others pass? Not always the grandads either, is it? It's at times like that that I wish I could be more patient, and have to contrnt myself with saying "F*** you" under my breath. What do you do?

She might have been having an angina attack which causes pain and had to stop suddenly or did she stop because she had dropped something, I suppose in your little busy life you didnt bother to stop and find out because u were so busy being annoyed! Why were u annoyed I would have thought someone so young would have such good reflexes u would skip on by without too much trouble, or perhaps yr reflexes are slowing down?

You've answered the question they are old and you know the saying 'once a man and twice a child' meaning they are unpredictable and as well as that they may have a back / feet problems that they are not able to keep walking so it is up to the younger folk to watch out for the eldery because one day you will be that eldery person and people will bang into you and that is nothing to be happy about either.

Same reason why shoppers amble up the supermarket aisle with their trolley and when you decided to choose that aisle to walk up, they suddenly stop to look at something and have the trolley 45 degrees across the aisle.
I think it just boils down to 2 things :-
1) Don't think and in a world of their own
2) Inconsiderate and feel people are in their way
Either way, should be a law where you can legally slap them on the back of the head if they do it.

You sound as though you have a real bad problem with "old people". I have often been stopped dead by mothers dealing with their young children and teenagers who walk side by side taking up the whole of the pavement leaving room for no one. So think again and slow down or you may never get to be that "old person" who stops everyone dead in their tracks!

I think it's because they are confused, trying to remember where something is, or something just catches their eyes. I really don't know, and yes it is annoying, but I usually just say excuse me and go around. And sometimes when I say excuse me, they say they are sorry, or maybe ask me if know where something is. I can that better than those who stand in an isle talking on their cell phone, like they can't move and talk at the same time.

It is really easy to just change pace and walk around and past them.
You could also stop and gently say to her " Are you ok?"
After all she could be your grandma, or a relative.
It takes monumental effort for older people to remain active and independent.
The people who are not being puished on wheelchairs are the proudest ones, even the healthiest ones in their youth, perhaps you would one day be as old and yet be as proud to remain upright with your dignity intact.
Think of your momentary inconvenience as a minor tribute to the great genetics that made this great nation the way it is.

Maybe they've just remembered that they've forgotten something.
Gaggles (or should that be 'giggles?) of teenage females do it and tribes of young males do it when one of the group comes up with a good idea (or possibly just with an idea) and they all stop to perform a 'high five'.

She most likely suddenly realised she'd forgotten where she was going. It can be annoying - it's happened to me on many occasions. It always makes me think of a quote I saw once,
"As you are now, so once was I"
We have to make allowances for the elderly in the hope that one day the younger generation will do the same for us.
