Ok so my friends keep telling me to IM my crush and find out once and for all if he likes me or not. The thing i got his SN from a friend and he knows i like him. ( at least im pretty sure unless he didnt believe the things my friends told him) So how do i start a convo? Just like hey how your summer going? BTW we're both super shy and im reallly nervous about doing this, so any tips oon oh to relax would be helpful too,

Start out the conversation by saying hello and going from there. You will be amazed at how a conversation will pick up once you just say hello.
Asking about the summer is a good idea. You can also do a little bit of flirting by saying something like " I've missed talking to you this summer" or "I can't wait to see you again."....something along those lines.
Be brave! The thing about doing it online is that you don't have to physically see one another. That should release some of the tension. Think about the reasons why you are crushing, and focus on those, and think about how much better things will be once the feeling are out in the open. By not focusing on "Oh my gosh, I have to talk to this person and find out if I'm liked..", just think of it as trying to get to know them better. That way you will be less nervous when you ask the big question.

I find it easier to tslk to people online than in person. I am able to be more honest and free that way. And I don't just mean with crushes, I mean with anyone. So yea, just IM him and say "Hey, What's up?" See how the first chat goes, and then maybe wait til the next day to ask if he would like to hang out and catch up in person. I understand you're shy, but I had a crush on this guy for the longest time and never did anything, now I wonder what would have happened if I just said to him, "Hey, you're totally hot, would you like to have dinner sometime?" So sometimes you just have to suck it up and be couragious. Have some fun ;)

If you are both shy then one of ya has to make a move and mostly men are too self-conscience to do it if they are shy, must be why he hasnt said anything to you.
Just make a move. Put yourself out there. Just ask some casual things at first and build up to more intimate questions. See where the conversation goes. You will get the idea if he likes you or not by his attention to you. His answers to your questions may be lame but men are that way for many years. But when he finally feel comfortable and can be himself with you then you will know the true guy. It may take time, but isnt anything worth it worth working for.

As for the conversation, just stay relaxed you're IMing him so you have little to worry about since you can't see him and he can't see him, so less to be worried about. The problem would be keeping the conversation up. I suggest going for the normal convo, how are, how's summer and all.
Try to find things that you have in common to, if you already know somethings that you have in common that you can put that as part of the convo as well.

I would say hey how is your summer going. And explain what you have been doing. Maybe ask if he has hung out with anyone from school. Thats always a good topic to talk about! Other People!

just be like hey and he'll say hi back. its amazing how much more outgoing you can be on the web. u can talk to guys and say anything you want without having to see their face response. you can ask him out waaaay easier. good luck! just take a deep breath, and type away!

Wait for a response, then comment on his response and tell him how your Summer has been going. Then say "I'm starving! Let's do lunch."
