All US military branches use military time. It is simple: just add 1200 to time after 12:00 noon. 1808 is 6:08 pm and 1731 in 5:31 pm. 2400 is midnight at the end of the day and 0000 is midnight at the beginning of the day.

They are already in standard 24 hour format, so the techinical answer is 1808, and 1731. In CIVILIAN time, it is 6:08 pm and 5:31 pm.

The best way to figure it out is to think of noon 1200 and just add the hours from there. Also midnight is 0000.

Always keep in mind that the Army uses a 24 hour clock and the civilian one is a 12 hour clock.
1808 means that it is 8 minutes past the 18th hour of the day:or 6:08 PM
I731 means that it is 31 minutes past the 17th hour of the day:or 5:31PM.
You can tell any military time that way.It ends at Midnight as 2400 and resets to zero or 0000 from there.

If it's over 1200, just subtract 1200 from it, and put PM at the end. If it's a single digit hour, just put a 0 in front (i.e. 0100 = 1:00 AM)

6:08 pm and 5:31 pm. "Army Time" is based on a 24 hour clock, mid-night being 2400. 12:01 am is represented as 00:01, 1am is 0100, 2am is 0200, all the way up to noon, which is 1200 hours. Instead of going back to 1:00 and designating it "pm", the military goes to 1300 hours, 2pm is 1400 hours, and so forth. The last two digits are the minutes, just like in civilian time. An easy way to figure this out is, say its 2045 hours, subtract 12 from 20, this equals 8. So you know it is 8:45 pm. If the first two numbers are larger than 12, it is pm, and if you just subtract 12 from the first two numbers, you get civilian time. It's not real complicated once you get used to it.
