I am not an x-ray tech, but I am a surgical tech and work with x-ray techs..They start at about $12-15 per hour straight out of school but can make upwards of $18-$20 per hour or more depending on experience and if you have additional degrees...Make sure you learn how to use the C-Arm in surgery...very few techs are good at using a C-arm x-ray machine and most end up remaining in the xray room only..The ones in our hospital that know how to operate the C-Arm in surg are the most valuable techs and the highest paid in the dept besides the Dr's themselves.

You can get a certificate, associate, or bachelors. As of right now, all you need is a certificate from an accredited school in order to take the national registry exam.

I'm working toward my bachelors, basically just for the hell of it. Maybe in 20 years I'll want to go into management or something. I graduated with an associate 2 years ago and made $18/hr right out of school working the day shift in a medical center. I now make $20.68/hr. I live in Michigan, but if I lived in California or Alabama or wherever, it could be drastically different.

Salary varies A LOT depending on the area of the country, what type of facility you work for, etc. Here is a link to the most recent American Society of Radiologic Technologists salary survey: http://asrt.org/content/rts/surveyresults/wageandsalarysurvey/wagesalsurvey2007.aspx
