Because people still believe in old wives tales and don't bother to educate themselves. Like the people that think flea collars actually work, and the best way to house train a dog is to rub their nose in it. For every fool answer, there are other people that believe the same thing and give them a thumbs up!
It is also irritating when the good answers get a thumbs down.

Because many people rate answers as positive because it's what they want to hear. I get rated negatively all the time because I don't always give a popular answer.
Being correct and right isn't always popular.
Also, people who give medical advice on here should be shot. They can talk about generalities but should preface everything with GO TO THE VET. None of this advice should ever take the place of valid medical advice.
Finally, if you say anything remotely critical, you are going to be hung out to dry. Many people asking a question wants to hear a warm and fuzzy reply. They don't want to hear the truth. They just want validation that what they are doing is correct - even when it's not.

Because people do not stop and think before they answer a question. Someone asked a question about what was wrong with their dog. I was 98% sure it was a spider bite and benadrill would have fixed it, but I told them to take it to a vet ASAP, because the 2% could have killed it. There were several answers that were complete crap and a few telling them to medicate the dog. The only responsible answer was to tell them to log off and et the dog to a vet and half the people said that, but the rest had to drop their "expert" advice in.
I have seen several pit bull Lovers tell us all that the facts that 67% of fatal dog attacks are done by pit bulls is irrellivant because their pit is a great dog. I know several great pits, but I do not refuse to beleave well doccumented facts.
In short if you want to answer a question Stop and think and give the best answer you can. If its all your opinion check out the facts before answering.

I don't read too many answers where the person states that they are an "expert". This is an open forum, a public forum so I would expect to see a variety of answers given that run the guantlet in terms of quality. Many people will thumbs down a poor or harmful answer. Some people will address that bad answer specifically in their answer. I think just as many bullpoo answers are rated positively as there are good answers that are given a thumbs down. I am guessing - since it is summer, that there are a lot of stupid kids on here just playing around.
Many people respond with what they know and with what has worked for them. And they let the asker know this. I am not saying that it isn't dangerous, but they are giving an answer based on the same scenario they went through.
Besides - can't almost every single question on here be answered with "TALK TO/ASK YOUR VET". ??

Many answers can be found just by doing old traditional research. I understand your fury. If you don't know what you are saying, just keep your mouth shut! Maybe you should try being a little more on the nice side, though. Just because some people are not good at taking constructive critizism. I personally agree with what you are saying, but try to say it a little nicer. The questioners should be more responsible when asking for advise. They know that most everyone on here are not experts, so they should take into consideration and do their own research after hearing the opinion of us.

I can only speak for myself but I have noticed allot of people try to give great answers and they are overlooked by the uneducated and game players, I know there are allot of people on here that are not an expert and sometimes I don't want a expert to answer If I wanted that I would ask my vet for the answer.... I ask to see who would give me the most honest answer and not joke or knock the question. I base my ratings on personal experience If I personally haven't gone threw it I wont answer the question, But I always try to be as honest and non judgmental as I can.

I can not believe yahoo lets anyone give medical advice
Yahoo needs to control this better
Someone may follow someones advice only to have a pet or a person die, then its law suite city
Yahoo's answer corner
Yahoo's responsibility
Just ask a lawyer
They call it
class action law suite
It is against the law to give medical advice if you are not a Doctor
What Doctor besides a quack is going to give medical advice without seeing the person or pet

This is going to be fun to try to answer. When writing is not my strong point.
Because some one can say they know something. When nobody knows them. Some are kids trying to act older then they are.
You have to try to figure out what is a good answer and what is not.
Like I know someone that would say that her father own and shown the great quarter horse Little Joe. I told her he is in books. She told me I did not know what I was talking about. People were laughting at her for it. She did it to help sell horses. And hopeful get horses to train.
And who listens to the rating. I would not. Because it can be all their friends rating it positively.
If someone could write it better go for it.

I guess that's why those that do know better need to give the bad answers a thumbs down. I hope that anyone that writes to this board understands that they need to do some research as well and not believe everything that is written here.
