my daughter is 17 months old and i think she started eating raisins at 15 months. but she does have a lot of teeth. but she does have 12 teeth. she already has all of her molars. she practically eats everything! also, if you would like to start him with eating raisins, you can try to give him one and see how he does. you just have to monitor him while he's eating it. good luck.

Could be too young. Most parenting books suggest no earlier than age 3 because of the choking hazard.
However, it depends largely on the child and the parent. Two of our kids ate daintily and carefully....one of our others ate like a pig...always stuffing in too much....talking or laughing while eating.a real choke risk. We'd never have given him raisins at that age. I think we didn't give him anything like that until 4. We also always cut grapes and carrots in half-lengths...just like we do weiners....for all the kids. And NO hard candies.
It also depends upon the vigilance of the parent. If I gave my kids raisins I watched them. I didn't give them anything like that it the car when I was driving. Choking can happen so fast and you just think the child is sleeping or quiet until you glance over. A friend of mine had that happen and had it not been for the older child who started to scream, she'd not have known that her 18 month old was choking in the back seat.
I'd be careful giving things like this. There is time enough for it down the road.

My daughter who is now 11 yrs. started raisins when she was about 2 or 3. My son, who is 18 mos. just recently started eating raisins. My son got his teeth in alot earlier than big sis. I also make sure I stay with him while he eats them and teach him to only put one in his mouth at a time. Some toddlers like to jam all the food in at once which isnt good. My husband and I are also CPR/1st Aid certified so that also give peace of mind. Congrats on the new baby!

When they're old enough to chew and swallow them, because it can be a choking hazard. Also, when they're old enough not to stick things in any oraface. Raisins up the nose or in the ear is not so great.

Having teeth is no guarantee if they don't know to chew it well.
We didn't start giving our kids raisins until we knew they could eat them sensibly and also understood what choking meant.
I wouldn't risk it if I were you.

closer to 2, or when they have started getting molars. Otherwise they can't chew them and it's a choking hazard.
