... it's sad that there aren't more serious religious/spiritual questions and answers in this category? There seems to be more bickering between the Christians and the Atheists than real conversation about religious issues. We don't all have to agree - in fact, wouldn't it be a boring world if we did? - but there's just so much disrespect and talking down to each other. Surely we're more intelligent than that?

monte54que, while I appreciate your comment, I think you might have missed one fundamental fact of the Christian religion - God asked us to spread His word. So if it seems like we're trying to convert you, you're right. I doubt we're going to stop. But I do understand your point.

well try starting up an intelligent conversation or something.
its a religion & spirituality section...obviously youre not going to get a large amount of conversation. especially from people who are more than willing to beleive something is fact simply because they like it or it makes the mfeel better.
as for the atheists, were here to keep the christians in check so they dont go around spreading "gods word" (AKA war) across the whole planet.

I think the atheists and agnostics get a good laugh when they ask simple questions, that Christians have no plausible answer for. It is a belief, and the atheists/agnostics need to realize that they will never get the religious zealots to see otherwise. Likewise, the Christians need to realize they will never be able to make an atheist/agnostic believe.

The bickering is normal, and the Bible talks about it. A few of the ancient Greeks in Athens used to babble to one another about various philosophies and would buy anything and any belief EXCEPT about Jesus as the Savior. Clear hypocricy.
Others around the world believed and were saved.

Believers and nonbelievers have one thing in common. Both refuse to entertain the notion that the other side has valid points. It is sad its this way. I am fully aware all people, whether atheists or believers, feel they know the truth. I think the first step is for believers to stop trying to convert people. That would be a good start.

I agree, a lot of debates are completely pointless because both sides get more deeply entrenched in their position, nevertheless I debate because I enjoy debating.
But I don't agree with superiority or talking down to people.

Absolutely! That's why I've asked a question before about whether Atheists should have their own section in R&S so that they can bash Christians amongst themselves in their own section instead of constantly harassing Christians.
