In my hometown new subdivision residents can opt out of paying for sidewalks that are seldom used. the homeowners pay for the sidewalks and the charges can be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Sidewalks cost money to install and many property owners do not want them. If there is a sidewalk the property owner is required to shovel snow from it, and can actually be sued if someone were to trip and fall!

Why should someone who works and buys property be forced to allow others to use it without compensation? I have a sidewalk in front of my property, that I never use. I still have to shovel snow and clean up the trash that the pedestrians leave. I get nothing from this!

My next house will not have sidewalks!

Sidewalks involve a certain degree of expense to install, and maintain.

Voters are forever demanding their local communities find ways to lower the taxes we have to pay.

This is one of many simple solutions to that request.
