You most likely have a case of food poisoning. It could be caused by a variety of bacteria or viruses. Most cases of food poisoning take up to 24 hours or longer before symptoms are seen. As far as treatment, you really can only treat the symptoms and not the bacteria/virus. Make sure you keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. You will want ot drink lots of water but also something like pedialyte to replace lost electrolytes. Gatorade is ok but it is high in sugar. Pedialyte is a better choice. Take tylenol/ibuprofen/etc if you have a fever/body aches/etc. Most cases of food poisoning will resolve themselves within a few days. If symptoms last longer than a week or progressively worsen, then you should see a doctor.

You cannot get an online diagnosis, my friend, so please don't ask. Fo now, treat it as gastroenteritis (food poisoning) and maintain a liquid diet for the next 3-4 days. Don't use antidiarrheals (PeptoBismol, Imodium, etc.) for the first 3-4 days. Fluids and rest. Introduce solid foods when there has been formed stool for 24 hours. If you need an antidiarrheal at this time, use one. If you see no improvement in 4 days, both of you see your doctors.

food poisoning can be caused 24 hrs. after the intake of food. Since it is both your mother and yourself having similar syndromes, it seems mostly food poisoning. It is important for you to drink water and keep rehydrating yourself. Try avoiding meat untill vomiting and diarrhea stops. If diarrhea and vomiting is excessive, you should see a doctor immediately so he can prescribe you medication to stop it.

I had food poisoning once and it only lasted a day. All I could do really was eat ice chips. Couldn't even withstand water. If it lasts more than a day you should get checked out.

It's probably an intestinal virus. Sip ice water or Gatoraid to keep well hydrated. If it continues more than a couple days, get a doctor's advice.

Stomach flu is going around. I have it myself. There really is no way to treat it other than rest and some 7 up or Vernors. This is what my doctor suggested to me.
