It's too early in the day for me to start drinking, so I'll take a logical stab at this one...

Personally, I find all forms of mythology interesting, whether its Greek, Egyptian, or christian.

One doesn't have to be a follower of a particular faith to be well versed in it. I, and many other atheists, know the bible as well as, or better than (in some cases) those who claim to follow it. We've been there, and understand what the faithful believe...we're astounded by the fact that people still believe it.

Depending on the question, sometimes offering a counter arguement can give the asker (and those reading) something else to think about. If your faith is strong, that should only serve to strengthen it. Knowledge, regardless of the source, isn't a bad thing...it allows you to make more informed choices.

Sometimes you just attract trolls. It happens.

It's an open forum, not just limited to christians.

With the attempts by certain sects of christianity to legislate their faith into law, we have a stake in the arguement.

These are all legitimate answers. Maybe you can explain why so many christians ask questions of atheists, yet award best answer to people who agree with them.

Maybe yahoo will make an atheist catagory...at the same time they move christianity into the mythology section.

Actually, I do understand what you believe. I used to be one of you, just as many other atheists who answer these questions once were. I am just as entitled to answer any question with my understanding of these things as you are. I should warn you though, this is NOT the "Christian Religion & Spirituality" section, it's "Religion and Spirituality." Your particular view is NOT the only one allowed here.

If you want opinions from only like-minded believers, you would be better suited to go to such a site. There are plenty of them on the internet that you can join, and you are not limited to only visiting Yahoo's R&S.

Okay, now that you have several answers from several atheists, please choose the best answer, not just the one that says what you want to hear (ie. picking a christian answer to a question about atheists. You wouldn't take a cow's word about what it's like to be a house cat would you?).

Actually, it's the other way around. Most people don't want to hear that atheists don't believe in God. I am trying the hardest I can to learn about all religions. And maybe we like to see what people are asking. You know, this is for people to ask questions, and other people to answer them. No limits.

Hmm...probably because this isn't the Christian board. It's about religion and spirituality and nowhere does it say you have to be PRO religion. I lent the CON side of the equation. I also have a lot of information and facts about religion, since I belonged to several before becoming an atheist. I also know my Bible. I see a lot of Christians on here who don't even know their Bible or what it means to belong to their own religion.

I only answer questions specifically asking for atheist input. Otherwise, I just read the comments because I am here to try and understand what you believe.

Why do creationists always have an answer to a question concerning Evolution???
If they don't believe and they don't even want to try to understand why we believe... why don't they get their own category on this and talk about it amongst themselves?....

(hope you don't mind, but I cleaned up your grammar some)

Oh yeah, and <>

because most have questioned the subject of god thoroughly. most understand all too well why christians believe. most christians believe blindly, as you are taught not to question. it is a lack of faith supposedly if you do question. you sound a little bitter. what is wrong with a little debate? are you afraid the good sense made will cause you to doubt you faith? i think church is a safe place for you to discuss religious questions without any atheists participating.

It gets boring talking to folks that always agree with me. I'm here for the entertainment not to understand why you believe. Spirited debate for me is entertaining. If you don't want to play you don't have to. But the last time I looked, I didn't see a "no atheists allowed sign."

Thirty years of practice and two degrees in religious studies, including a Master of Divinity say that I am actually qualified to answer questions here.

Why is this so difficult for you to understand?

There should be a category for "Christians who need to bash and question atheists constantly." I see more questions like this from Christians...than the opposite. I'll drink too.
