Shedding? All dog shed, but none of these are massive shedders...like German Shepherds, Siberian Huskies, etc. Yorkies shed the least out of these breeds. The hair tends to shed and catch in the coat or fall out and clump together...rather than leaving scattered hairs everywhere. Regular brushing/combing and vacuuming will help with all.
Barking? All three breeds are known as barkers, although some individual dogs might not be. My Dachshund is quiet, rarely barks. However, he's a longhaired...some feel they're calmer than the smooth & wire coated, because of the spaniel blood. Who knows...?
Good Dogs? It depends on your wants/needs and lifestyle. Research them thoroughly, learn their breed traits and care requirements. It's also important to know you'll get out of the dog, what you put into the dog. Please, don't make the common mistake of thinking little breeds don't need training...all dogs do.

There is no magic answer. Nearly all dogs shed and when you love them you don't notice it as much.
Decide what you want in a dog and look for those traits in the parent and then check out the pups.
All dogs have different personalities, so visit the puppies and watch how they play. Agressive independent personalities show up right away. If you want a dog that thinks for himself you want independency. if you want a lap dog get one that is laid back and will let you handle it without squirming. I've had all of the breeds you mentioned and loved them all. The Yorkie was the most stubborn of the group, but he was a darling (most of the time)We called him Devil Dog and the Vet's nurse call him the Dog from Hell.
The Chihuahua was the barking one. Large dog/small package.
Dashound was a charmer, spoke fluent English and had friends across the country, but loved to chase the mailman.
Check out some of your local rescue groups and you can skip the puppy stage.
Lots of luck

I raise all but the Dachshund and a close friend raises those. All 3 breeds barks alot but all of them are smart & can be taught not to bark. Yorkies are non-shedding but Chihuahuas do shed, I don't know about Dachshunds. All of mine are good with kids or I wouldn't keep them because I have grandkids but alot of that is the way they are raised. Yorkies can be extremely hyper, Chihuahuas can be extremely nervous. From what little bit I have been around Dachshunds I really like their personalities but they get real attached & can suffer from separation anxiety if separated from the person they bond with.
Mixes are real popular now and anything with a poodle, yorkie or maltese mix will be unshedding.
There is alot of resources that tell about the different breeds, I will list some below.
Good luck finding the perfect baby.

I think that you should get a dashound because to my knowledge a dashound does not really bark alot ,and a chihuahua is very very mean even if you want to pet it it will bite your finger off , and I never heard of a Yorkie but it sounds like it sheds ans barks alot

chihuahuas and doxies especially long haired ones shed a nice amount. i own a yorkie and he doesn't shed much except a few unnoticeable hairs. all dogs shed a little. usually with yorkies you won't notice until you brush and comb them. they require a lot of maintenence unless you have them shaved down. they can be barkers but can easily be trained not to be. they are playfull and energetic but you should never buy one under three pounds or they will be extremely fragile. just jumping from a step could result in a broken leg.
they are usually really sickly as well. go on google and look up little to no shed dogs if you want other options. they'll give you a list of dogs that shed very little like the yorkie. a maltese is one. some of the dogs on the list will be mixed breeds but you can refine your search

If shedding is a problem and you want a small dog.....i would suggest a toy poodle. All small dogs bark...A LOT!! I had a dacshund and she was horrible....plus their bark is deeper for a small dog, so they sound bigger than what they are. Chihahuas are major yappers and so can yorkie's. My mother has a papillion named Pippin' and they are supposed to be quiet. He was until he took up with our dacshund and now he is just as loud as she is, but I am sure he wouldn't be if it wasn't for Missy being so loud. Mom's Papillion is so sweet, but he sheds like CRAZY! My husband and I own a black toy poodle names Sora and she is the best little dog I've ever had. Not only are they smart and easily trained, but they do not shed, you will have to get them groomed, but the no shedding is so worth it! Her bark is still "yippy", cause she is a toy dog, but nothing compared to Missy and Pippin'! But if you are still set between the three breeds, I would get the yorkie they are non-shedding, they will have to be groomed, and if they are socialized well at an early age, barking should be at least be at a "normal" range.

Any terrier is going to be pretty high strung. Also, if you want a dog that's not going to shed a lot you'd want to look towards something that's "wire-haired" or poodle/poodle mixed.
Chihuahua's are going to shed just about as much as any dog - the only difference is that there's 75% less dog than most other breeds so you just don't notice the hair as much - but it's there.
Same with Dachshunds. Chihuahuas can be barkers, too - at least mine is, and most other people's I know are. But.. the only dog that's NOT going to really bark is a Basenji. All other dogs bark, whimper, etc. It's just part of being a dog.
Chihuahuas are typically "one person dogs" and will bond to one particular person unless they're extremely well socialized from day 1 that you get them - both with other people and animals.
I think out of the three, my personal suggestion would be a dachshund.. just because I think it's going to be the mildest of all three.

Chihuahuas bark a lot and can be nasty. Yorkies have long hair so they will shed. Dashounds are short haired and short legs but overall are good dogs.

I've had both a chihuahua and a dash. Both will bark a lot at starngers but are generally good and pretty well behaved to people in the household.shedding shouldnt be too bad of a problem. the dash will however, have a greater chance of meddicle problems as they age (spine ususally).Of the two the dash has the better disposition. I also the question about your knee, I;ve had the same problem for a while, also due to running for several years. Take some ibuprofine (advil), if the problem persists then i would recomend seeing a physician.

Out of those three only one will not shed and that is a Yorkie. You still need to groom the dog and if the long coat is too much to deal will get it the short clip. They look really cute in that cut. Do research on the breed you want, you can go to http://www.akc.org and read about the breeds. All the best;~)
