I looked in and at the bible as Jesus had spoken to His people while he was on earth. He was only using words as of the gammars suited for of a 4 to 7 years old to understand. So you don't have to be smart to be a Roman Catholic priest. You just need to be in the grace of God. Sacrament of Holy Order is free for only good right men as not have to besmart or too be stupid men. Do you agree?

I agree, Holy with God's grace you can do all thing. Holy Mother Church teaches as laws of the Church. A good man who can manage on his own as what Jesus done and keep up with his studies and give the sacraments is suited for to be a priest at any age unless he is unable too . Every priest have commucation problem with some the laity and every priest have days as when they make mistake in their work and etc because they are human. They takes vows, but not always keep them faithfully as because they are human. There are men who without any school degrees can manage real well on their own ,but if he in need for some improvement in some area in his own priestly field. He can either get a tutor or take a class in school. Most priests wasted many years in school as they forgot most of the things they have stuides. But only have been studying on what is most important. A priest do not have a say mass at all but only the Pastor. Each Pastor have to say mass 300 to 400 times a years. Chaplains and E_M is a waste of time they can never give all the sacraments whenever one need one or more sacrament. We need only a valid ordained Priests as what Jesus Christ has and had only created in His chruch and the Apostles only created male deacons. We can't have anything asles becasue its nothing but problem amd trouble. Remember Jesus is the smart one!

The educate varied with different cultures and social standings. Someone with a "title" would be well educated, where as a slave - unless reading was needed to perform their duties - might receive little to no education.

The Jews of Jesus' time had one of the better educated societies for men. All males were expected to attend to school to learn to read and write, so that they would be able to read and study the Torah.

The vocabulary used in the New Testament books does vary. The writings of John are very rich in their vocabular and show an excellent knowledge of not only the common Greek spoken at the time, but of classical Greek.

Mark also is rich in the color and detail that he includes in his writings. He shows an intimate knowledge of the culture and society about which he writes.

The vocabulary used by Matthew is more limited. It appears that the Greek in which he wrote was a second language to him. (Aramaic was the common languge for Jews). Many of his expressions are Aramaic expression spoken in Greek. This makes some scholars debate whether Matthew may have first written his gospel in Aramaic, and then translated to Greek.

Paul used the Koine Greek that was the commonly spoken language of the majority of the Roman Empire. This would make his writing as accessible to the most people as possible. His mastery of the language is exceptional, with many puns and plays on word throughout. Unfortunately, those can not always be translated into English or other languages. But it shows that he was a highly educated man able to quote poetry and philosphers from Greek and Roman history.

Luke, the author of one of the gospels and the book of Acts, was an educated physician.

So the authors of the scripture were a mixture of people, from simple men with little educated but an experience with God, to highly schooled and educated officials and kings.

Maybe not back then.

Now the Priests have a huge responsibility in their Church, we now have much more history to know than they did 2000 years ago, Priests also have to be smart enough to run a parish, which is just as hard as running a business, budgets, regulations the whole deal.

Catholic Priests go through at least 6 years of College now, all to take a vow of poverty and be ridiculed by many people. I am not sure if you are trying to insult them with your question, but I hope not.

If you want to know more about what it takes to become a Priest, or understand the Catholic faith better, go to:

I am a Roman Catholic, and we have educated priests for a reason. Who would want an uneducated person in a position of leadership within the church? Priests undergo education not only in "worldly" disciplines, but are heavily schooled in theology, so that they're able to fully understand and interpret the Church's policies and doctrines. True, uneducated people can serve important functions within the Church, but not generally within the priesthood itself, where seminary education is a requirement. A priest must know and understand Church doctrine, and knowledge of that subject, in all its complexity, is gained in seminary.

Well, churchmen were among the most educated, only they knew Latin. Not even some kings new it back then. But they knew, even back then, that knowledge is power, so anyone who was smart enough to think for themselves, was a threat to the church. Why do you think the founders of science were persecuted so much? Because they could think for themselves.

I agree entirely, though I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say.
