Dutch...First off, I'm not a wiccan. However, I have studied the relgion along with many others for more than sixty years. You did specifically as I asked and I won't argue the fact you linked.
From the news cast:
"Investigators say the suspects were using Wiccan rituals and drugs, including marijuana, to seduce the teen."
I have never read of or attended a Wiccan circle where drugs were used. However, in complete honesty, in the sixties and seventies almost everyone smoked or ate marijuana including Jesus freaks.

Headline: "Santa Maria couple face six felony charges in Wiccan religion molestation case"

P.S. Bad people find their way into every group. It doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with the group. I am not Wiccan, and this story does not change my opinion about people are who.

I'm pretty sure that if a Wiccan happened to be tried for a child crime that the news would just say 'witchcraft' or 'Satanism,' rather than 'Wicca.' Reporters go for sensationalism, not information, so someone would see a pentacle or some symbols they aren't familiar with and file it under 'cult activity.' I'm not saying that I confuse Wicca with Satanism, but I'm not an initiate of either, so if I stumbled into a practitioner's room, I wouldn't know the difference, unless there was a 'Goddess loves you' or 'Blessed Be' sticker laying about. Wait... Wicca has the Horned King, as opposed to a Mother Goddess, right? Heck, see what I don't know? That's the uninformed public for you. I have heard of witchcraft cases involving children, but I live in Florida, so there is a witch and a child molester on every other block. It is only statistical probability that the two should, at some point, converge. I'm not saying that I think Wiccans or Neo-Pagans are prone. From the people I have met, I would actually assume the opposite. Most are really nice, and very 'good' people. I'm just saying that the large numbers of pagans and child molesters in my area means there simply must be a few bad apples that fit both criteria. I can't sight the news cast. Who relies on the TV news, anyway? I can't stand the sensationalism!

I have never, personally, seen or read such a thing.
But I'm not going to say it could not happen.
One of the things that distresses some of us grumpy old pagans about "pop" Wicca Lite is that with so many young folks thinking it's "cool" and having NO REAL IDEA of what it is, and therefore being utterly unable to recognize a good teacher from a bad one, is that unscrupulous people may prey upon these kids.
And of course, if it were ever to happen, we would ALL be condemned in a way that Christians are not.

Innocent children get abused or murdered somewhere in the world every day---it's horrible!! --If there has been a case where a Witch or Wiccan was the perpetrator of this horrible crime, I don't remember it.--- I have a no tolerance policy where the harming of a child is concerned--I don't think the penalities are anywhere near severe enough for hurting or murdering a child!! In my opinion, hanging is too good for someone guilty of crimes against children.

I have never seen any - and I am Wiccan and I read the news from around the world posted on Wiccan sites.
How many Christians have abused or murdered a child? How many have done so because God wanted them to?

I'm a news watcher and have never heard anything bad about Wiccans. I have heard of christians killing children though, figuring they are saving them from the devil getting them.

Considering the knee jerk reaction generally given to Witches and Pagans, it is my firmly held belief that is such a thing did occur, the news would be all over it.

The problem is devil worshippers (not Satanists; there's a difference) are always accused of "practicing witchcraft," thus making witches look bad too.

wiccan rede - harm none.
dutch
i don't know what those people were doing, but they were not following wicca. besides the rede there is the three fold law - everything that you do comes back to you three fold.
anyone that actually followed wicca wouldn't do what those people did.
