You can no longer rebuild your credit by being an authorized user on the credit card of another. FICO decided to change that, starting next month. Those whose credit scores improved in the past using this method will see their scores decrease again once the new rating system is in place.

it doesn't work like that.
A credit score is for using a credit card only for high end items like a home or a super expensive car...otherwise it means nothing. And if you have no credit cards of your own then you are too young to be asking this question.

Only your mom can rebuild her own credit and that's by paying the bills and not buying anymore, and having less credit and not more as you suggest. You're confusing us by saying rebuilding (rebuilding means she had bad credit) but then you say she has excellent credit (then she doesn't need to rebuild). Why are you asking two opposite questions?
Maybe you should stay away from credit for a long while till you get the terminology straight.

As long as you are named as a co-signer or a joint signer, it really doe's not matter which card she chooses as long as it has a good long pay history.

Next month the way FICO calculates credit scores is going to change and authorized users will no longer get additional points. And it's going to be retroactive so any points that people have received they will lose.

The rules have changed. Authorized users don't inherit good credit history any more.
