I have heard of other vets advising to give baby aspirin. Just follow the vet's instructions exactly.

Only give human type medications under the supervision of a vet. The dosage is particularly important. I have cited a statement, and then provided the link in the source:

[When you hear that you should never give human medicines to cats, it means that you should not give them without first consulting your vet. Certain very common human drugs like aspirin and especially tylenol (acetominophen) are deadly to cats, so don't give them any kind of medication unless recommended by the vet (note that aspirin can be given in very small doses, but you need to check correct dosage and frequency of administration).]

If your cat is peeing blood (orange) he's in the process of dying. Since this is PREVENTABLE with vet care, it's your choice to put him through this agony. This is one problem your cat really does need vet care for. Make arrangements for paying the vet, that or have the cat euthenized before he has to suffer any further. Dying from kidney failure, a preventable thing, is agonizing for the cat. You can swing a vet checkup and blood test. He's not in liver failure, he'd be dead by now and his gums would be yellow. Kidney issues are treatable. The longer you wait, the less treatable they are.

If I was unsure about my vet's counsel, I'd seek a second opinion. If you live anywhere near a university that has a veterinary program, you might call there and see if a tech or student can answer. I'd be afraid to advise you against your vet's counsel, but I do know that aspirin can be harmful to pets, so I think you should be very sure you heard right and that your vet is correct.

If the vet has given the go ahead then it should be ok. But always consult a vet before giving any animal human medicine.

Oh come on, why would the vet tell you to give your cat a lethal dose of aspirin?

If you don't trust him/her don't take the cat to the vet.

If the vet suggested it then it should be safe, if you're worried call another vets and ask for their advice over the phone.

Hope this helps

I wouldnt imagine it would kill it if the vet has recommended it however, human medicines are not licenced for animal use which means that the effect they are going to have on the animal cannot be determined to be safe.

My vet has been practicing for almost 30 years. That is one of the doses he recommends he also go with one baby aspirin every other day.

As a cat breeder for almost twenty years I trust this man implicitly. It sounds to me like your vet is more knowledgeable than most.

All the new vets coming out of school want to do is run tests for several hundred dollars. Sounds to me like your vet is a gem and you should *hang on to him*
