Science has proven that we all descended from a common ancestor.
Many of us know the effects of drugs on the mind.
The biblical story tells us how, after eating the apple, adam and eve were aware. It seems this fruit brought about consciousness in mankind.
I don't find it hard to believe, even from a non religious point of view.

Are you being serious? You haven't heard the story of the original sin?

Satan approached Eve in the guise of a serpent and persuaded her to eat the fruit of a tree that God had forbidden her to. She resisted at first but the silver-tongued snake brought her round to his way of thinking and she disobeyed God, totally destroying her walk with Him and condemning the rest of us to searching for Him where we shouldn't have had to.

Oh, she also compounded her guilt by persuading Adam to do the same.

it was a s real as the back of your hands!!
Adam and Eve were the first man and woman on earth!
The Snake decieved Eve and make her aprtake of the fruit which God warned them not to eat!
In turn, Eve decieved Adam by Offering him the fruit.Hence, they both sinned and got banished from thr garden of Eden.
This is according to the holy Bible.
Good luck in ur search of answers.
I hope this helps.

I saw a statue of Eve at the Tate Britain by Sir Thomas Brock 1900 that may provide an answer to your question.

Eve is alone, her head is slightly bowed and her arm is across her chest. As you walk around her she is graceful and elegant from all aspects and her moment of insight into her position as woman after committing the original sin is captured - Beautiful, intimate and powerful.
It had a profound effect on me.
I started to think of questions such as
Does she know she is being observed?
Does she look ashamed?
Is her arm across her chest due to modesty - or is it protective - if so who is she seeking to protect - herself or others?

She seems to possess an awareness of her position. Her expression is not of regret - she appears to be having a quiet contemplative epiphany into the impact of her actions upon the future of humanity and if you look closely she has the suggestion of a smile on her lips.

It was sculpted from Carrera marble (Italy) which has a beautiful inner glow in natural light.

As you can see I got quite carried away :-)

Imagine if it had been Adam who had eaten the forbidden fruit. Would men now be menstruating and having babies ?

This fairy story has been a good way for Christians to beat themselves up over nothing for far too long.

I don't HAVE to make anything out of it. It is the first account of sin in our world. If you obey, you are loved and given grace.

If you DON'T obey, you are STILL loved but your gift of grace will wait unitl you confess and believe. It isn't hard to understand or beleive...unless you refuse to beleive.

Either way, it is REALLY there waiting for you!

we should not eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil = don't make judgements about what is good and bad that is only for god to do.

we should eat of the tree of life - live, and experience, and enjoy

Basically it is a story that tells us the importance of hedonism, and freedom from religious ideas about what is right and what is wrong.
