Protest over what? If you are protesting because you don't want to eat meat, or want to boycott a certain brand for political/moral issues, you need to discuss those beliefs with whomever is buying, preparing or serving those meals BEFORE the meal occurs. Offer suggestions or alternatives, offer to help pick out the foods you would prefer, and be prepared to pay for your own food because that person may or may not agree with you.
If your problem is that you want a home-cooked meal and are only getting takeout you need to start shopping and cooking for yourself.
If your problem is you wanted spaghetti and you got meatloaf, you need to asses your level of maturity. If you do not contribute to a meal, you do not get to have a voice.
Leaving the table in protest in any case is not a good idea. It makes you look like a child, a whiny, bratty child. If you are trying to make a point about something, nobody will know it, because you'll be gone, and possibly they won't care because they won't respect you as having grown-up ideas because you're not acting like a grown-up. Also you miss out on a lot more than just a meal, you miss out on time with your family, which, whether you believe it or not is important.

Harsh, it seems that you are not aware that there is nothing like home cooked food which has the important gradient in the form of love. In addition to that the home cooked food is always healthy and easy to digest. Moreover, you have a control over the ingradients and the qaulity thereof.

The food you get from food joints always has a commercial angle and the quality, quantity, preparation etc. suffers. Of course, the presentation is very good. Further to that, you never know who cooked, touched and processed the food and in what way.

It is presumed that you have an issue with the presentation, variety, taste etc. of the food you get at home.

Here is a simple solution - Just let the person (who cooks food for you) know about your specific expectations. You may also try to help him/her in creating some innovations & variety.

Always remember that the person who cooks food for you for pure emotional reasons should be treated as important as the almighty.

Hope you have got the 'answer'. Never ever show disrespect to the food that has been served.

Well I do the cooking in my house most of the time so if my family walked away from the table in protest, we would have some serious problems. My kids know better than to act that way. Even if they don't like something, they are required to only take a small portion and at least try it.

The only way you should leave the dining table in protest is if you PAID for the meal.....

Otherwise, be respectful to your parents, even if you don't like everything that's cooked.

Eat what is put infront of you or don't eat at all, The only way to get out of this was if you were alergic to something...
YOur best bet is, if you really dont like what is being made, take a really small portion, this way, you eat, your plate is cleared and things are pretty good.
In our house growing up, if we "protested" something, we didnt eat.
More people need to start with these rules again. It makes a big difference in children...

being a head of the family I know what is the value of the food on the dining table and what is the hard labour and efforts put behind it to be served, I agree that I voluntarly eat the food served me on the dining table.

You eat it or be hungry! Unless of course you're running something! How much did you bring to the table? How much did you put on the lights and gas bill? Did you help pay for the phone bill or trash removal? How much did you have on the rent/mortgage this month? Say thank you and eat it!

I always eat what's put in front of me. It's rude to do otherwise. Someone else cooks for you and you say it's not good enough? I just pray it's not something really gross like liver or squid or something like that. In all my nearly 39 years I've never had the prayer let me down.
