What I've done is put some butter in a microwave safe bowl and put it in the Microwave, put a few seconds and see if it has already melted if not you can put some more seconds until is done.

Savoury/Salted Butter Popcorn (traditional method):
Get the heaviest pan you have for the most even and constant heat conduction.
Put in enough oil (Olive, Groundnut or Sunflower) to the height of a kernel - (Never use butter at this stage as it burns at lower than cooking temperature). Put in enough corn
to entirely cover the bottom of the pan-only one kernel high. Do not be tempted to pile more corn in-when the corn explodes the volume increase is enormous. Put heat on full power and after a short time the corn starts popping. When the popping slows down to about 1 every 4 seconds remove from heat quickly (to avoid burning the popped corn). Take out corn from cooking vessel and transfer to a serving dish. Gently heat some butter to melting point. Pour over the butter and gently mix through the corn. Add salt to taste and that should do the trick. For a sweet version, add castor sugar or honey to the butter. Allow this version to cool or it will be sticky.

While you can not make "movie butter" as it typically is already made to drip on movie popcorn, you can make fairly tasty movie butter-style popcorn at home following these simple steps https://learn.im/s/make-movie-butter-for-your-popcorn

get one or two sticks of butter, put it in the microwave for maybe a minute or so(just make sure you don't cook it too long). then, after the butter is cooked, get this salt thats called "popcorn salt". you sprinkle THAT on the pocorn after you pour the butter all over the cooked popcorn.
p.s. make sure that the popcorn is fresh and not stale.

I Used to make "movie theater popcorn" for my grandmom. I would take a half a stck of butter and melt it on the stove top, not to high so you dont burn, and in a giant bowl as soon as the pop corn is done popping add the salt and toss, the salt will stick to the freshly popped popcorn because of the natural oils, and moisture. Then Id add the butter and toss then pop on a wikkid flick and enjoy
