so many christians on this forum have used the fact that there is hard evidence of jesus as a way to substantiate their religion. how does the proof of the existence of a man validate their beliefs, because evidence of jesus does not mean evidence of god!

Jesus is the express image of God.

Faith is the substance (title deed) of things not seen.

Well didn't we just open the theological quagmire today?

I think the existence of "God" dwells within each person and their faith of His presence.

Jesus was supposedly a living incarnation of the spirit of God, but I think that the words and teachings of Jesus have been severely misinterpreted and taken for granted by millions of people for a long, long time.

So to answer your question, I would think it all depends on the particular person you ask. Some would say that Jesus was a definite show of proof of God's existence, some would say it's a crazy notion, some might even laugh.

I personally believe that people should be more spiritual and less religious. This includes following the TEACHINGS of Jesus moreso than trying to focus on some ghost story of him ascending to heaven. The wonder is in His words, not what supposedly happened after he died and that's where many folks make a big mistake. Jesus tried to teach people how to love and have a positive attitude and folks have just lost sight of that and turned His story into some religious circus. Why can't people live by the example of peace? Remember, Jesus wasn't a martyr until many years after his execution. The Gnostics pretty much followed his path of teachings, but unfortunately the Roman empire had bigger weapons and armies and the concept Jesus was teaching was forever tarnished. So now we're all way off the mark of having an individual confirmation of God being there by taking the route of religion.

Fewer people would die in the world if we lived more spiritually...and followed none of the archaic doctrines that were imposed by a murderous conquerer back in the 4th century.

Jesus would not approve of His name...and that of God to justify killing, regardless.

This is why if we turn inwards to our spirituality and banish religion, we will have more questions answered, including if God really does exist or not. We should be allowed to decide on an individual level and not try to force the ideas on others.

Sorry I got off on a rant there...

I don't know. I was born catholic and I decided not to be a catholic anymore when the priest said, "Let the hand of God touch you in your heart." But yet it was the priest's hands that was touching my butt. I'm quite sure my but wasn't my heart.
Then again, the whole Holy Trinity thing. No engraven image, no one else but God should be worship. Yet, there's the whole thing with the Cross, the white dove, and Jesus. Oh, the saints, what's with them.
How many versions of bible is out there anyway?
1. King James Version
2. Martin Luther's version for the protestant
3. Gideon's version
4. Jehovah's witness version
5. The Church of Latter Day Saints version
6. The Orthodox Roman Catholic version
Suffice to say, only God knows how many other versions out there.
Which one am I to follow? Which one is the actual word of God?

Evidence of Jesus does mean evidence of God becuase God and Jesus are one. You can't have one w/o the other, including the Holy Spirit. And if you deny Jesus then ur denying God and the Holy Spirit.

The most important factor is this!
John 16
Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

What Jesus was saying here is that there would be the Holy Spirit to do things with us. If you can read it clearly, the Holy Spirit is do things with non believers and devils as well.

So what I am saying is that Jesus told us that there would be this 'Counselor' to come after he left, and many of us have noticed Him. That is evidence to we who are saved. It is an elusive proof to those who are not saved. So the evidence is given to those who trust God, and the one's who do not trust God are unaware of it.

If the existence of the Holy Spirit is true, and that the Holy Spirit is doing what Jesus said He would do, then thee is evidence that is pointing to the fact that the Bible is correct, even a little part. If we can trust that Jesus spoke the truth there in John 16, then can we not also look in other areas in the Bible and test those things to be true?

Jesus said, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
(John 20:26)

That there tells me that there would be people after the Apostles who have not seen Jesus, who will also believe. And that's me for one who will say, "Yes, Jesus really is proof of God. He made it possible not only that I should have peace with God, but also that I can trust Him throughout my life, and He will care for me."

"evidence of jesus does not mean evidence of god! "... you are correct... but that has no bearing on the basis of The Faith of those of The True Christian Faith... For those of The Faith, God is The Fact that our Faith is based upon

That Jesus, in mortal flesh, walked the Earth some two thousand years ago is substanciated by some evidence... But The Divinity of Jesus is proven By God to those open to His leading.

It is not only Jesus who was 'the proof' of the existance of God. I think you forgot all those messengers, Prophets, etc. Moses himself met with God in Mount Sinai, Abraham, Noah, etc. Jesus was Gods last prophet, as well as Gods Holy Son.

there's no. No historian of the era wrote one word approximately him. the 1st historic mentions that relate to him are not approximately him, or something that he's alleged to have finished, yet are a checklist of followers of a faith based partly on him, or perhaps that's over a one hundred years later. Even the writings approximately him in the bible have been written a minimum of 50 years afterwards, and a few of them contradict one yet another, and are in many areas copied from one yet another. The info strongly ability that no such guy or woman ever particularly existed.

There is hard evidence that Jesus was buried and also that Jesus was not in the grave. When the bible is proven historically accurate on all its timelines, cities, kings, etc to doubt the existence of its central core, I would find hard to do.

But as I have said over and over, to those that do not want to know God, there never enough proof for them.

There is pretty good evidence that Buddha and Mohammed lived at one time. Does that mean Islam is a true religion and that Buddha's system of thought is free from error?

A dusty book written by a couple dozen men does not prove the existance of God what so ever.
