My roommate (24) just got dumped by her boyfriend of 3 years. Any suggestions on how to cheer her up besides flowers, food (she's a health freak), or just listening/talking? Much thanks!

Keep her busy... Find something to get her out of the house... Doesn't have to cost much... Introduce to new people... If you have a group of friends she doesn't know get together with them (don't try to set her up with someone else) safe zones are important. I have a friend dealing with a lot of pain lately and my goal has been to get her out. She and I did a girls night on Saturday and she has called it 'A movie star evening right out of a movie' and all we did was go out to a lively town. And Sunday I took her out with my middle aged marina buddies... Nothing big to me but a huge deal to her... Her mind was not on her ex and she was smiling... Till bedtime... Send her a cute email at work with a silly inside joke or leave a silly gift of bubbles on her doorstep... She'll get a laugh and want to blow bubbles instead of crying over her man. If you find she is pouring herself into work all of a sudden don't worry... She is concentrating attention elsewhere... She will come around, and it is healthy to find alternative things to do now that a beau isn't in her life. Besides she may get her promotion now that she's working a little more often and diligently... Whats wrong with that right?

The key to a breakup especially one with so much history is to help her stay busy. If she can keep her mind occupied then she want focus on it so much. In the meantime she probably also needs a shoulder to lean on.

Have a girls night out. Go to the hottest night club in your area this weekend and have fun. Dance the night away oh yeah take a few shots. You have to drive that night!

listening and talking is very good for the soul and it will help. remember at first she'll be very upset and then she'll end up hating him which is normal. its been a long hoe for her but tell her that at least shes not married i hope there aren't kids involved. if there is then she need to get child support orders on him he will pay if their his. it does not take marriage to support that.

Keep her busy on weekends.

Craft shows, movies, shopping trips etc, etc.

Also, what does she really like to do as far as a hobby. Get her back into it.

I think that a nice bouquet of flowers and a gallon of her favorite ice cream would do the trick.
