Could it be a corrupt culture? Corrupt leaders? A combination of the two? I know many very religious and strict Muslims, and not a single one of them backs up a single terrorist. They believe in forgiveness and leaving things that they have no control over up to God. They also know that suicide and killing people who are innocent (innocence means have done absolutely nothing wrong worthy of death such as killing another, which would be the only reason) are wrong and send you straight to hell. What is your opinion on this?

"The first thing the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did after settling in the city of Madinah, to which he had been invited as leader, was to conclude a treaty between the Muslims and the followers of the Book (Jews and Christians) of that city. According to this treaty, the Muslims guaranteed them freedom of belief and granted them the same rights and duties as those enjoyed by the Muslims."

Because they are crazy misguided and use religion to justify their actions.

It's about control. They are using only certain text out of context to justify a religious reason to do what they are doing. The leaders in these movements are corrupt.... the followers are corrupt... all are morally bankrupt.

I know that there are many many far out numbering the terrorist who are Muslim and are good honest caring people.

It is those who use Islam to justify their corrupt actions that I despise for they are leading the world into believing that all Muslims are bad.

I have been strongly and sternly criticized for the above paragraph elsewhere. Even trying to give me a mini lesson in how wrong I am.... It is not the mainstream Muslim is bad. It's the terrorist who has defiled the name of Islam.

I have a copy of the Quran. I have seen the violent verses there. I have seen the violent hadiths, as well. I have read the stories of some of the things Muhammad did that were not so peaceful, same as everyone else has...as I am sure you have as well.
You are telling one side of the story. True, you are telling it well. I think you may very well believe what you have typed here.
My problem is that, while it may be true that "most Muslims are not terrorists" (I can't possibly know, since I don't know all Muslims), it is also true that most terrorists are Muslims.
Unfortunately, there is no way to tell them apart.
Therefore, I can't really trust any of you.
I wish it were different, I truly do. You seem like a really cool person...but, if we were to meet in person, and I knew you were Muslim, I don't think we could be friends.
I have to be able to trust my friends...

The "terrorists" believe they are performing some type of Jihad - Holy War. Muhammad says in the Quran and/or Hadith to defend yourself and your beliefs if need be and inflict twice as much pain on the smiter as they have on you. I wish I could remember the Surrah's that say this, unfortunately I do not haev a Quran in front of me right now.

American's have invaded two of the most holy sites that Muslims have: the sites where Husayn and Ali were killed or buried. The mosque where Ali was killed has bullet holes in it from American firearms...This just adds fire to the flame so to speak. Not only do they believe we are very unwanted and have stuck our nose into a religously governed state/area/countries, we have tried to imbibe our American Democratic ways on their belief system and way of life. To top it off, no one is giving them an ear to hear what they have to say, we are just trying to force them out.

Do I condone what they do? Absolutely not. I don't think what they do is right at all....but having looked at it from a non-objective point of view, and placing myself in their situation stemming from hundreds of years of war, I can see where they are coming from.

And yes, I know I am going to get a million negative thumbs-down for my answer. You ask an opinion..you get one.

The problem with old religious texts is that they are open to interpretation. No Christian believes the world is 7000 years old as the Bible says, so that means Genesis, as well as the rest, are open to interpretation. Quran is the same way. Some will have an agenda or cultural bias to their interpretation and read more than is actually there, or be able to see only the passages that support their point of view. Using an ancient text, you can make it seem like it supports almost any view, including conflicting ones.

Perhaps those Muslims take the Koran in a different context. They pick and choose the violent parts. The way someone else can pick and chose to nice parts. This way its a choice either way. Which is ultimately what you believe.

The Islamic faith, like all religions, is often corrupted by man. The Quron, allows them to defend themselves agains invaders, but does not allow acts of terrorism, nor does it allow for any attack on the innocent. Men have twisted religious dogma to serve their needs and desires.

because they have been brainwashed by the likes of ben ladden for years also the hatred of jews for centuries by their leaders combined with their own failures and wanting to be looked on as heros in th eyes of their people. so they become terrorists and they hate anybody who help the jews and will attack them also no matter what the cost the only way to defeat the ben laddens is to convince his followers they are being taken down the wrong path and only their own leaders can do that by that I mean the arab world leaders

I'm not sure how you missed the fact, but the Quran has both messages - peace and violence, same as the Bible. And in the same way, followers of either religion can embrace one message and explain away the other.
Islam has one thing that Christianity doesn't - and that is a recorded history of their prophet committing mass murders and atrocities. Perhaps that is why Islam still has a fairly large violent component, while the Christian violent fringe has shrunk to almost non-existence.

Because, like it or not, there are some hadiths that do not tell them not to, and there are some Imams that are preaching hate and intolerance.

Unfortunately, there seems to be no central leadership to correct the radical Imams.

I hope the moderate Muslims prevail.

Peace be with you!

I am a former muslim, and I have denounced religion in general because it is a scam. Religion is saturated with hypocrisy. It is not just Islam but all religions. Islam is simply the religion in spotlight at the moment. Every religion is corrupt and it is a means of controlling people.
